Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 over an alleged assault at a London nightclub in February 2023. The case later changed: Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu pleaded guilty to affray at Southwark Crown Court on 24 July 2026. As of 8 October 2026, sentencing was scheduled for 26 October; no sentence had yet been reported.

What happened at the London nightclub?

The reported incident took place in the early hours of 19 February 2023 at Tape London in Hanover Square. The Crown Prosecution Service said the court heard that Brown approached a man from the dancefloor and struck him twice over the head with a glass bottle, while Akinlolu punched him. The CPS said the victim went to St Mary’s Hospital with head and knee injuries. These are details attributed to the prosecution’s account of the case.

The Metropolitan Police said its CCTV enquiries showed Brown striking the victim with a bottle and Akinlolu punching him; police also described the victim being chased, pushed down and kicked. Detective Constable Zara Ripamonti called it “a disgraceful, unprovoked assault that put a man in hospital” in the Met’s 24 July 2026 release.

Why was Chris Brown arrested in England?

More than two years after the reported incident, Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 after returning to the UK for a concert. The arrest location was Manchester; the alleged assault took place in London.

What is the latest court update?

The latest official update available as of 8 October 2026 is that Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to affray on 24 July 2026. That plea is distinct from the section 18 grievous bodily harm charge authorised in May 2025: the earlier charge should not be described as the final plea or disposition. Sentencing was scheduled for 26 October 2026, so its outcome was not yet known at the date of this article.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Claire Campbell said in the CPS release that the prosecution described a “vicious and unprovoked attack” in a crowded nightclub and alleged that Brown used a glass bottle to strike the victim twice. Her remarks describe the prosecution’s account, not a separate finding about every detail beyond the reported plea.
