The Rio recordings were interviews for Anos Depois, a retrospective documentary about Brazil’s first Chiquititas—not the original telenovela’s main production. That series was recorded mainly in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The latest located report, published in July 2024, said the documentary had not been released and cited copyright and image-rights issues; its status today could not be verified.
What is Anos Depois about?
Anos Depois is a documentary project revisiting the first Brazilian version of Chiquititas, which aired from 1997 to 2001 across five seasons. It was directed by Cristian de Ciancio, who had worked as a camera operator on all five seasons of the telenovela.
De Ciancio told NaTelinha that development began in 2019, following a suggestion from former cast member Jander Veeck. Interviews started in November 2021, and the project had conducted more than 60 interviews by July 2022. Cast members also contributed personal archive material.
The conversations explored the experience of joining the show, working and living in Argentina, fame, time away from family in Brazil, difficulties, and the return home. The documentary was intended to look back at both individual memories and the cast’s shared experience.

Were the Rio recordings for the show or the documentary?
They were for the documentary. A POPline report from December 2021 said the team interviewed people in São Paulo before traveling to Rio de Janeiro. Among the first Rio interviewees were Chico Abreu, who played Tatu, and his mother, Sônia Abreu. The team also filmed in Buenos Aires, where former cast members Aretha Oliveira and Vivian Nagura revisited places associated with the production.
| Recording context | What was recorded | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Original Brazilian telenovela | Main series production, made through a partnership with Argentina’s Telefe | Primarily Buenos Aires, Argentina; some music videos were exceptions |
| Anos Depois | Retrospective interviews with former cast members and relatives, along with archive material | Reporting describes interviews or filming in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires |
The locations serve different purposes: the original production was made mainly in Argentina, while the later documentary gathered memories from people in Brazil and revisited places connected to the show.

Why has the documentary not come out?
In July 2022, De Ciancio said the documentary was in finalization, but there was no streaming platform or confirmed release date. A September 2022 R7 report also said no premiere date had been confirmed. Those reports describe the project at the time, not its current distribution plans.
The latest located status report is NaTelinha’s July 2024 follow-up. It said the project remained unreleased and cited a December 2023 podcast interview with actor Flávia Monteiro, who played Carolina. Monteiro said: “Está pronto, praticamente, mas estão barrando com problemas de direitos autorais e de imagem” (“It’s practically ready, but it’s being held up by copyright and image-rights problems”). NaTelinha also reported that the trailer had been removed and that the director did not respond to a renewed inquiry.
