After a private invitation leaked and media gathered outside, she later described feeling overwhelmed before the ceremony—and peaceful once she was inside. She also said she had not known about the security personnel’s reported conduct at the time.
What happened at Chiquis Rivera’s wedding?
Rivera and singer Lorenzo Méndez married on June 29, 2019. Univision reported that the ceremony took place at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California, followed by a reception at a ranch in Sylmar. Telemundo likewise reported the date and described the ceremony as private. Univision’s wedding retrospective and Telemundo’s report covered the event.
Rivera later spoke about the day in a video and interviews. Her account focused on the personal meaning of the ceremony; news reports supplied details about the locations and the commotion outside.
Why did Rivera want her wedding dress kept private?
Rivera said a private invitation had leaked, drawing media attention to the church. She wanted her dress covered on the way in so Méndez and her family would see it before anyone else. In a July 9, 2019 report, People en Español quoted her saying, “I was really nervous when I was on my way to church. I wanted to cover my dress because I wanted Lorenzo and my family to see my dress before anyone else.” People en Español’s account attributed the statement to Rivera.

She acknowledged feeling a responsibility to her audience, but said she wanted to keep that moment for herself. As she put it in the same report, “I was so focused on my big day, on my wedding, that I didn’t know what was happening.”
What did Rivera say about the security incident?
Univision reported that a cameraman was struck and spat at by wedding security outside the church. Rivera said her wedding planner had hired the security personnel; although she paid for the bodyguards, she did not know most of them. She later watched videos of what happened and said security had crossed lines. Rivera said that, had she known at the time, she would have told them not to push.

The incident is reported by outlets, and Rivera offered her response afterward. The available accounts do not establish an independent investigation or provide a separate finding about the conduct.
How did Rivera feel during the ceremony?
Rivera recalled being nervous and overwhelmed before entering the church. She said she missed her late mother and cried beforehand. Once inside, she felt peaceful. In the People en Español report, she described the ceremony as “such a beautiful and sincere ceremony” and said, “I didn’t want it to be a show.”

In a later Univision interview, Rivera said she was happy with the day and did not think she would change anything about it. Univision’s transcript notes that it was generated using AI and says the audio should prevail if there is a discrepancy.

Rivera and Méndez later shared wedding footage on Rivera’s YouTube channel. Telemundo reported on November 19, 2019, that the video ran about 20 minutes and included preparations and moments with family and friends. The release gave viewers a look at the day that Rivera had initially wanted to keep private until her groom and family saw her dress.
