LaRoyce Hawkins has filmed his final episode as Kevin Atwater, according to an August 17, 2026 report. That is a different—and later—development from January coverage, which connected Atwater to a possible Miami move but said no departure had been officially confirmed at the time. The reports establish the actor’s exit from the series, but not how the show resolves Atwater’s story on screen.
Is Kevin Atwater leaving Chicago P.D.?
Yes. CinemaBlend reported on August 17, 2026, that Hawkins had filmed his final episode as Atwater ahead of Season 14. The report confirms a production-side departure; it does not establish the episode number or explain Atwater’s eventual fate in the story. CinemaBlend’s report

The timeline matters because an earlier story was only about a possibility. On January 29, 2026, ComingSoon linked speculation about Atwater leaving to his former love interest Tasha Fox revealing that she was expecting a child, and to the possibility of a move to Miami. It explicitly said an exit had not then been officially confirmed. That January account should not be read as confirmation of the later departure. ComingSoon’s January report
What is confirmed—and what is not
- Confirmed by the cited later report: Hawkins filmed his final episode as Kevin Atwater before Season 14.
- Not established by these reports: the episode in which Atwater’s departure occurs, whether he leaves Chicago or the unit, or whether the character dies.
- Earlier speculation: the pregnancy and possible Miami move were discussed in January, when no official exit had been confirmed.
Until the relevant episode provides the answer, claims about Atwater’s on-screen ending go beyond what these reports establish.

Atwater’s exit is separate from other recent cast departures
Chicago P.D. has had other cast changes, but they should not be folded into Atwater’s story: one was reported as an actor not returning, while another character was killed in the Season 13 finale.
| Character | What the report establishes | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Kiana Cook, played by Toya Turner | TVLine reported Turner would not return for Season 13. Turner’s statement, reproduced by the outlet, said: “My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close.” TVLine’s report | Reported June 26, 2025, before Season 13. |
| Charlie Reid | Parade reports Reid was killed in the Season 13 finale. Parade’s Season 13 guide | Season 13 finale. |
| Kevin Atwater, played by LaRoyce Hawkins | CinemaBlend reported Hawkins filmed his final episode; the available account does not give the on-screen resolution. | Reported August 17, 2026, ahead of Season 14. |
These exits differ in both what was reported and what is known about the characters’ stories: Turner’s non-return was announced before the season, Reid’s death was an in-story event, and Hawkins’ final filming is confirmed without a reported resolution for Atwater.

Why the loss matters to the series
Atwater is a long-running character portrayed by Hawkins, and his departure changes the ensemble viewers have followed. But the available reports do not provide a named statistic measuring his popularity, audience response, ratings impact, or the effect his absence will have on the show. “Beloved” may describe how a reader feels about the character; it is not a measured audience finding in these sources.
