After she and Cole DeBoer built a farmhouse in Sioux Falls and found they enjoyed the work, HGTV announced a series following their effort to build a renovation business and help South Dakota families improve their homes. The show, first announced under the working title Farmhouse Fabulous, became Down Home Fab.
How Chelsea DeBoer moved from MTV to HGTV
The transition joined two parts of the DeBoers’ lives: television and home renovation. Chelsea was known to viewers through Teen Mom; building the couple’s own farmhouse gave her and Cole a project that led toward a different kind of show, centered on design decisions, construction work and clients’ homes.
In February 2022, HGTV announced that it had greenlit a six-episode series, then titled Farmhouse Fabulous, with a planned spring 2023 premiere. The network described the series as following the couple’s renovation and design business in South Dakota. The program later aired as Down Home Fab. TV Insider’s report on HGTV’s announcement outlines the original premise and timeline.
What prompted the renovation and design career?
The farmhouse was more than a television backdrop: the DeBoers said the process helped them recognize an interest they could turn into work. Cole explained, “After building our dream farmhouse in Sioux Falls a few years ago, we realized we have a real knack for design and home reno and it’s evolved into our passion.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That experience supplied a natural bridge from personal home projects to a business. Rather than simply documenting family life, the new series could follow the couple as they applied what they had learned to renovations for other households.
What did Chelsea and Cole each bring to the show?
HGTV presented their strengths as complementary: Cole brought construction experience, while Chelsea contributed design instincts. The arrangement made the couple’s partnership part of the renovation story—design choices had to meet the practical demands of getting a project built and completed.

HGTV programming executive Betsy Ayala described them as “spirited young entrepreneurs breaking ground in the home renovation business.” The network’s announcement also quoted Chelsea on the risks and demands of starting a business while raising a family: “We can’t wait to take our fans along this next crazy journey of building our business from the ground up — with four kids in tow — showing all of the highs and lows on the renovation site and at home.”
How did the HGTV show differ from family-focused reality TV?
The new format still included the DeBoers’ personalities and family context, but the renovation projects gave episodes a client-focused center. Chelsea said she wanted the series to feel personal and light-hearted without making the children’s private lives its subject: “We really wanted to focus more on us and [being] light-hearted [to] show our personalities, and we wanted the kids to be part of it, but we didn’t want to, like, dive into anything personal with the kids.” Distractify reported the comment in January 2023.

That distinction matters to the career story. The change was not a rejection of television or of sharing family life altogether; it was a reorientation of what the cameras followed, from intimate family milestones toward design work, business-building and renovations for clients.
What is known about Down Home Fab now?
A July 2026 EntertainmentNow report says the third season aired from May through July 2025. That article reported no evidence of new filming since then, but it did not establish an official cancellation or renewal. The series’ future should therefore be treated as unresolved rather than announced either way.
