Will OVHcloud VPS-1 handle a 24/7 YouTube stream?
It may run a stream, but the published specifications alone do not establish that it can encode your video continuously or stay within its monthly traffic allowance. YouTube recommends a 5 Mbps H.264 bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps. At a constant bitrate, that is approximately 54 GB per day, or 1.62 TB over 30 days, before audio, protocol overhead, reconnects and other VPS traffic. This is a calculated estimate, not an OVHcloud usage figure. On the cited APAC allowance, VPS-1’s and VPS-2’s 1 TB quota is therefore a poor default for uninterrupted 1080p/30 streaming at that bitrate. Even 3 TB on VPS-3 or VPS-4 should be checked against actual traffic and workload.

Use this estimate to screen plans: monthly transfer in decimal GB is approximately bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 × 30. Add audio, overhead, retries and any unrelated VPS traffic. Then compare the result with the allowance for the location and SKU shown at checkout—not just a general “unlimited” claim.
Encoding capacity is a separate unknown. OVHcloud describes CPU and memory on VPS instances as shared among independent VPS instances; its published FFmpeg examples refer to dedicated servers. Configure the YouTube stream and VPS workload
- Confirm location and billing. At OVHcloud order time, identify the actual VPS region, monthly transfer quota, post-quota rate, public bandwidth and final price including applicable Indian taxes. Do not assume a server is in India based on the India-facing page.
- Choose the stream settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval that does not exceed 4 seconds. - Monthly transfer quota and what happens when it is exceeded.
- Advertised port bandwidth, plus results from your own sustained stream test.
- Available CPU and RAM, whether the workload is shared, and performance while software-encoding your chosen format.
- Storage required for media kept on the VPS.
The available plan information does not establish the best APAC region for an India-origin channel or reliable encoding performance for any listed SKU. Do not rank regions or promise an uninterrupted stream without checking the order details and testing the intended workload.

Troubleshooting a VPS stream
- The stream slows or stops after heavy use: check the VPS traffic counter against the region’s quota and confirm the over-quota rate. The cited APAC terms specify a 10 Mbps cap after the included allowance.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or dropped frames: check the encoder bitrate, network route and available upload headroom. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond primary plus backup bitrate; a nominal port speed does not confirm end-to-end stability.
- The VPS CPU stays saturated or frames are missed: reduce encoding load or test a different configuration and plan. A vCore count alone does not establish continuous encoding performance, especially when CPU resources are shared.
- The stream disconnects and does not resume: inspect encoder logs and reconnect behavior, then test recovery before relying on the setup. YouTube warns that network disruption may break a stream.
- The bill or allowance differs from your estimate: check the selected region’s order terms and include audio, protocol overhead, retries and all other VPS traffic in the calculation.
