It is now marked sold on brokerage pages, but those pages disagree on the sale price: Carolwood Estates displays $11.2 million, while Hilton & Hyland displays $11.7 million. Neither figure is independently confirmed here as the final recorded price.
What happened to the $10.5 million listing?
The $10.5 million figure was the asking price reported in 2025, not a verified current price. Mansion Global covered the listing at that amount: Mansion Global’s 2025 listing report. The property is subsequently marked sold on two brokerage pages. Carolwood Estates displays $11.2 million and Hilton & Hyland displays $11.7 million; because the figures conflict and no authoritative transaction record is cited here to reconcile them, the final closing price remains uncertain.
The property has changed hands before. The Los Angeles Times reported a sale for $12,212,000 in 2016. Brentwood News later reported that the current seller acquired it through a trust in April 2024 for $7.8 million. These are historical transaction reports, distinct from the 2025 asking price and the conflicting brokerage displays.
Why is the estate associated with Charlton Heston?
The home was built in 1959 and designed by architect William S. Beckett. Heston lived there for nearly half a century, until his death in 2008. The address is 2859 Coldwater Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills. The Los Angeles Times’ 2016 account described a nearly 9,700-square-foot property with five bedrooms and six bathrooms; that is a dated description, not a definitive current specification.

What is on the nearly three-acre property?
The estate is a compound rather than only a single house. Published descriptions include a main residence, a multi-story studio and guesthouse, a screening room, tennis facilities, and private access to Franklin Canyon trails. Listing descriptions do not use a consistent bedroom count, and the totals may differ according to whether guest quarters are included. Brokerage measurements and square footage are approximate and should be verified against the relevant listing or records.
What was the home’s condition when it was listed?
2025 reporting said the house had been stripped to the studs during an unfinished remodel. The listing presented it as an opportunity for restoration and referenced plans to enlarge it. Those plans describe proposed work: they do not establish that construction was completed or that any expansion received approval. The reported condition means a buyer should distinguish the historic house and compound from the finished, move-in-ready property an older listing might describe.

How should the different prices and property details be read?
| Figure or description | What it refers to | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| $10.5 million | Reported asking price in 2025 | Mansion Global; historical ask, not a current asking price. |
| $12,212,000 | Reported 2016 sale | Los Angeles Times, 2016. |
| $7.8 million | Reported acquisition through a trust in April 2024 | Brentwood News, 2025 report. |
| $11.2 million | Amount displayed for the sold property | Carolwood Estates page, accessed October 5, 2026; not reconciled with the other brokerage display. |
| $11.7 million | Amount displayed for the sold property | Hilton & Hyland page, accessed October 5, 2026; not reconciled with the other brokerage display. |
| Nearly 9,700 square feet; five bedrooms and six bathrooms | Earlier property description | Los Angeles Times, 2016; not directly comparable to later listing figures that may count structures or bedrooms differently. |
These amounts describe different events and sources, not a single price history verified against public records. Likewise, property-area and bedroom figures should not be combined into one specification when the descriptions may count the main residence, guesthouse, or other spaces differently.
