She recalled trying to wear a one-piece, only to have producers prefer a bikini, and described objecting to a particularly revealing costume in the 1978 episode “Angel on High.”
Why did Cheryl Ladd wear so many bikinis on Charlie’s Angels?
In a 2016 interview, Ladd agreed when the interviewer suggested she wore bikinis more often than her co-stars: “That is absolutely correct.” Asked whether she could choose a one-piece, she recalled: “I always tried to put a one-piece on and the producers would say, ‘No, Aaron [Spelling, the EP] loves your tummy.’” The exchange captures Ladd’s account of a recurring wardrobe preference, not a measured comparison across the cast. Yahoo Entertainment’s 2016 interview reports the conversation.
What happened with the bikini in “Angel on High”?
Ladd singled out “Angel on High,” a 1978 episode. Her character wore what the interview describes as a particularly revealing bikini while meeting Kelly, played by Jaclyn Smith, for breakfast by a pool. Ladd recalled objecting to the costume and said Spelling sent a note through the wardrobe department afterward. This is Ladd’s recollection; the available accounts do not include a separate statement from Spelling or production documentation independently confirming the exchange. The 2016 interview recounts the episode anecdote.
How did Ladd describe the bikini wardrobe later?
In a 2020 interview, Ladd described talking with Spelling about wearing bikinis “all the time,” reinforcing her memory that they were frequent without establishing a number of scenes or episodes. Yahoo Entertainment’s 2020 interview records that retrospective account.

At a PaleyFest LA reunion marking the series’ 50th anniversary in April 2026, Ladd summed up the wardrobe in a short phrase: “Bikinis, a lot of bikinis.” The Associated Press report provides event context, but the remark still does not quantify how often she wore them. The Associated Press report, published April 7, 2026, quotes her at the reunion.

What the recollections establish—and what they don’t
- Ladd has consistently characterized bikinis as a frequent element of her wardrobe on the series.
- She said she tried to wear one-piece swimsuits, while producers sometimes preferred a bikini.
- Her detailed example is the revealing costume in “Angel on High,” which she recalled challenging.
- The interviews and reunion remark do not supply an episode-by-episode tally, so they cannot establish a literal count or show that every swimsuit scene involved a bikini.
