The figures are for the season—not Charlie Hunnam’s performance alone—and may change as more reviews and ratings are counted.
What do the two Rotten Tomatoes scores mean?
The Rotten Tomatoes season page displays separate critic and audience aggregates. The Tomatometer is the share of counted critic reviews classified as positive; the Popcornmeter reflects audience ratings. Their percentages have different bases, so they are not directly equivalent measures.

Both figures are Rotten Tomatoes’ displayed values checked October 8, 2026. They describe reception of the season as a whole, not a standalone rating of Hunnam’s portrayal of Ed Gein.
Why might an older score report look different?
The aggregate changed after the series premiered. On October 3, 2025, launch-day coverage by CinemaBlend reported one review and no season score. Rotten Tomatoes’ later display, checked October 8, 2026, shows 41 reviews and a 22% Tomatometer. A report from release day is a snapshot, not the current aggregate.
#1 Best Overall
What is the series, and where can you watch it?
Rotten Tomatoes identifies Monster: The Ed Gein Story as a crime drama released October 3, 2025. Charlie Hunnam plays Ed Gein, and Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are credited as creators. Rotten Tomatoes lists Netflix as the viewing service, with a subscription; availability can vary by country.
In a review published October 6, 2025, TIME TV critic Judy Berman described the season as moving between real crimes and scenes that exist only in Gein’s imagination. That is a critic’s characterization of the dramatization, not independent verification of the historical accuracy of particular scenes. The scores likewise measure reception, not documentary evidence about Gein’s life.
