What is “New Shapes” about?
Charli said the song was recorded “a long time ago—pre-pandemic.” She explained that its speaker refuses conventional expectations around love and sex, and described the track as an “antihero song.” As she put it, “I like how it’s an antihero song.” The framing centers on a pop narrator who does not present herself as an idealized romantic lead or follow familiar rules about desire.
