Channing Tatum said in 2023 that his production company, Free Association, had the rights to Ghost and was trying to develop a remake. He was considering taking the role made famous by Patrick Swayze—but neither Tatum’s casting nor a new plot has been confirmed. The project’s status as of October 8, 2026, is also unverified.
Is Channing Tatum’s Ghost remake happening?
The public reports trace to a January 2023 interview in which Tatum said Free Association had the rights to the 1990 film and was trying to develop a remake. Variety reported his comments, as did the Los Angeles Times. Those remarks describe a development effort at that time, not a movie confirmed to be in production.
The latest specific status-related coverage identified was published in 2024. It described the remake as in development since 2023 and noted that original star Demi Moore had reservations. That report does not confirm the project’s status now. No verified announcement establishes that filming has begun, that the project has been canceled, or that it has a release date.
What is the remake’s plot?
No verified synopsis for a new version has been announced. Tatum said the proposed remake would take a different approach and that aspects of the original needed to change. In Variety’s account of the January 2023 interview, he said, “But we’re going to do something different,” and, “I think it needs to change a little bit.” He was discussing his view that the original included problematic stereotypes; those remarks are not a plot description.

Demi Moore and other performers
Moore starred in the 1990 film and was reported in 2024 as having reservations about the remake proposal. That coverage does not cast her in the new film. No wider remake cast has been confirmed in the reporting available.
