Its central hook is the collision of competitive ambition and an intimate triangle involving two men from Tashi Duncan’s life.
What is Challengers about?
The film follows Tashi Duncan, played by Zendaya, a former tennis prodigy who becomes a coach. Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor play the other two central characters in a story Amazon describes as a tennis-fueled relationship triangle. Rather than treating tennis as mere backdrop, the premise places competition alongside desire and personal history.
Director Luca Guadagnino described the sport’s central image this way: “The ball is the ephemeral, invisible force of desire.” The Associated Press attributed the remark to Guadagnino in an interview published April 23, 2024. Read the AP interview.
Who stars in the film?
- Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, the former tennis prodigy turned coach.
- Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor as the other two central figures in the relationship triangle.
The official MGM film page identifies Guadagnino as director and Zendaya, Faist, and O’Connor as the principal cast. See MGM’s film page.
