Why the honors also recognized a shared film connection
Boseman and Davis co-starred in George C. Wolfe’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, based on August Wilson’s play. The Gotham announcement called this the first year the awards had honored two actors from the same film with tributes. At announcement, the film was described as forthcoming and scheduled to become available on Netflix on December 18, 2020; that was the announced release plan, not a statement about where it can be streamed now.
