Céline Dion has three children: René-Charles Angélil, her eldest son, and fraternal twins Nelson Angélil and Eddy Angélil. All three are Dion’s sons with her late husband and longtime manager, René Angélil.
Dion has largely protected the twins from public attention, while René-Charles has occasionally appeared with his mother and pursued music independently. The family’s story has also become part of Dion’s public life since René Angélil’s death in 2016 and her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome.

René-Charles Angélil
René-Charles is Dion and Angélil’s eldest child. He grew up around music but has not simply followed his mother’s career path. Instead, he experimented with hip-hop and released music under different names.

In 2018, he posted tracks online using the rap name Big Tip. The releases included original material and songs incorporating samples from music by The Weeknd. His later documented project was the five-track 2021 EP CasiNo.5, released under the name RC Angélil.
The EP’s track list was:
- “Mamba Mentality”
- “MONEY, THRILLS, AND REST”
- “NO Ls”
- “GG4”
- “LV”
These releases establish an independent musical interest, but public reporting does not support describing René-Charles as having a currently active mainstream music career.
His public appearances with Dion
René-Charles joined his mother at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, where he presented her with the Billboard Icon Award. The appearance carried particular emotional weight: it came only months after René Angélil died in January 2016 following a battle with throat cancer.
On June 28, 2024, René-Charles accompanied Dion to the NHL Draft in Las Vegas. Dion announced the Montreal Canadiens’ first-round selection, combining one of her family’s apparent interests—hockey—with a major public event.
Nelson and Eddy Angélil
Nelson and Eddy are twins born on October 23, 2010. Dion has described them as fraternal twins, so they should not be identified as identical.
Why they were named Nelson and Eddy
Nelson was named for Nelson Mandela. Dion and René Angélil had met Mandela while Dion was touring in South Africa, and the encounter influenced the choice of name.
Eddy was named after Eddy Marnay, the French songwriter and lyricist who produced Dion’s first five French-language albums. Marnay was an important early figure in Dion’s development as a French-language singer.
Compared with René-Charles, the twins have had a much lower public profile. Dion has generally kept details about their everyday lives private. Reliable public sources do not provide a substantial verified account of their individual personalities, schooling, careers or separate interests, so those areas are best left unspecified.
Their appearances in family footage
The twins appeared with Dion in the 2024 documentary I Am: Celine Dion, offering viewers a limited glimpse of the family without turning their private lives into the film’s subject.
Nelson and Eddy also attended a Boston Bruins–New York Rangers game with Dion and René-Charles on March 21, 2024. Dion has said that all three boys are hockey fans. In November 2023, she shared photographs of her sons visiting the Montreal Canadiens after a game in Las Vegas.
How René Angélil’s death changed the family
René Angélil died in January 2016. Dion subsequently raised the boys as a single parent while continuing to manage her career and family responsibilities.
Her sons have been especially important in the years since Dion disclosed, in December 2022, that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. The condition affected her ability to perform and became a central part of the story told in I Am: Celine Dion.
Rank #4
Dion has discussed her children as a source of support during her illness. That support was visible in a rare family photograph she shared on January 15, 2025, while remembering René Angélil on the ninth anniversary of his death. The caption identified the group as “RC, Eddy, Nelson and I.”
What the documentary record shows
The public record gives a clearer picture of family milestones than of the sons’ private lives:
- René-Charles has documented music releases and has appeared with Dion at selected high-profile events.
- Nelson and Eddy are fraternal twins named for two influential figures connected to their parents’ lives.
- Dion has chosen to limit the twins’ exposure, although they have appeared in family photographs, at hockey events and in I Am: Celine Dion.
- All three sons have supported Dion during a period marked by their father’s death and their mother’s serious health challenges.
Beyond those facts, claims about their education, personalities or future careers should be treated cautiously unless confirmed by Dion, her sons or a reputable source.
