In comments reproduced by PerthNow, she also thanked viewers for welcoming the show into their homes.
What Carrie Bickmore said about The Project ending
In a retrospective post reported by PerthNow on June 13, 2025, Bickmore described The Project as “a huge part of my life for 14 years” and said she had made “life long friends” there. The outlet reproduced the words from her post; it did not independently retrieve the original social-media post.
Her tribute looked back on the people and experiences behind her time on the program: laughter, emotional moments, memorable stories, advocacy, and the changing group of hosts around the desk. PerthNow reported that Bickmore acknowledged that viewers held strong opinions about the show, including some who had not watched it.
Why she credited the people viewers did not see
Bickmore singled out the production team responsible for making a daily news show. As quoted by PerthNow, she wrote: “The effort and creativity involved in turning around a daily news show is extraordinary and it’s the faces you don’t see who show up day after day that deserve so much credit”. Her tribute therefore extended beyond on-air colleagues to the staff whose work made the program possible.

Bickmore’s years on the desk and the show’s reported run
PerthNow said The Project began in 2009 as The 7pm Project and described the program as ending after 16 years. The report put Bickmore’s own tenure at 14 years. Those figures distinguish her time on the show from its reported overall run; they are details reported by PerthNow, not an independent program-history verification.
The report names Charlie Pickering and Dave Hughes among Bickmore’s early co-hosts, and Peter Helliar and Tommy Little among later colleagues at the desk. Her reflections also covered the show’s evolving hosts, funny on-air moments, production work, and stories that mattered to her.

Bickmore thanked viewers for letting the program into their homes and expressed the hope that it had kept them company. That is her personal reflection on the audience relationship, rather than a measured claim about the show’s reach or reception.
PerthNow’s account is the basis for these details. It does not establish ratings, independently measure public opinion, or verify whether episodes of The Project remain available to watch.
