Carême is an eight-episode French-language historical drama about celebrated chef Antonin Carême, played by Benjamin Voisin, whose rise in Napoleon’s Europe draws him into political espionage. Apple announced its premiere for April 30, 2025; the series is now listed as streaming on Apple TV.
What is Carême about?
The series follows Antonin Carême from humble beginnings in Paris to culinary prominence in Napoleon’s Europe. Its story joins the world of ambitious cooking with political intrigue: Apple’s synopsis says diplomat Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand draws Carême into spying for France, making his talent and ambitions useful beyond the kitchen. Apple’s series announcement presents that as the drama’s premise, not as a documentary account of every event.
The show has eight episodes and is in French. The Associated Press also framed it as a period drama combining Carême’s culinary ascent with political intrigue. Its review is an independent description of the series, rather than a source for treating the show’s scenes as verified history.
Who plays Antonin Carême?
Benjamin Voisin plays Antonin Carême. The principal cast announced by Apple also includes Jérémie Renier, Lyna Khoudri, and Alice Da Luz. Apple’s February 2025 announcement names the cast and confirms the French-language format.

How does the series relate to the real Carême?
Carême is historical drama, not a documentary. Apple says the series is inspired by Ian Kelly’s biography Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, The First Celebrity Chef; that is a reading lead, not evidence that the screen story follows the book exactly or that the book is an official companion. Apple’s announcement identifies the inspiration.
Critical responses to the show’s use of history differ. Le Monde criticized how it incorporates political events and historical material, an assessment by that publication rather than a settled scholarly verdict. Its review offers one critical perspective; dramatic scenes should not be taken on their own as evidence of what happened.
