Ubisoft and the Arbitrum Foundation announced that Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. was scheduled to launch on December 18, 2024. Ubisoft’s current Eden Online page lists that date as the game’s early-access release date, but now says the Eden Battle Arena is coming to a close. Players who already signed up can continue to access the game and claim shop items and Battle Pass collectibles, then mint them on the E.V.M. until June 30; Ubisoft does not state the year for that cutoff.

What is Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.?

It is a free-to-play, retro arcade multiplayer arena shooter from Ubisoft, set in Eden and inspired by the Netflix animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Ubisoft describes fast-paced battles for eight players, unlockable cosmetics, a leaderboard, optional purchases and skill-based progression. The game is distinct from the series: it uses the show as its inspiration rather than being the show itself. Ubisoft’s game page provides its current description.

What did the Web3 features add?

The project’s NFT-linked layer was the Niji Warrior ID collection. The Arbitrum Foundation’s December 11, 2024 announcement said ID holders would receive early access and governance features, including opportunities to take part in decisions about game mechanics, maps and story developments, as well as rewards and community access. The launch announcement quoted Ubisoft Technical Director and Executive Producer Didier Genevois describing the project as a collaborative development effort in which players could become co-creators.

Magic Eden announced a collection of 10,000 Niji Warrior NFTs. That number is the collection’s announced size, not a player count, sales total or measure of adoption. Magic Eden’s 2024 announcement describes the collection.

What is the game’s status now?

Ubisoft’s Eden Online page lists December 18, 2024 as the early-access release date and says the Eden Battle Arena is coming to a close. Its current notice says players who had already signed up can continue accessing the game and claim shop items and Battle Pass collectibles, with the option to mint them on the E.V.M. until June 30. The notice does not identify the year, so the date should not be treated as a recurring annual deadline or assigned a year without further confirmation. Check the Eden Online page for the latest project notice.

Is an NFT required to play?

The available descriptions present the game as free-to-play and the Niji Warrior IDs as a separate collectible and participation layer. They do not establish that an NFT is required for ordinary game access. Collectible acquisition, however, has separate eligibility and wallet conditions under Ubisoft’s Web3 terms.

Requirements and risks for collectibles

  • A valid Ubisoft account and two-factor authentication are required.
  • Users must be at least 18, or older where local law sets a higher minimum age.
  • A compatible third-party crypto wallet is needed for Web3 collectibles. Ubisoft says it does not provide or custody wallets; users are responsible for protecting their private keys.
  • Availability is geographically restricted, and Ubisoft says the list of eligible regions may change. Acquiring a collectible can also depend on availability and applicable deadlines.
  • Public wallet addresses are visible when transactions are made. Transferring a collectible may remove its associated cosmetic from the user’s game inventory.

Ubisoft’s terms say digital collectibles are NFTs representing items such as in-game cosmetics, intended for enjoyment and use—not investments. They do not guarantee future value, and their in-game use may end if Ubisoft stops operating the related experience. Owning an NFT does not mean owning Ubisoft, the game or its artwork. Read Ubisoft’s Web3 terms before acquiring or transferring a collectible.
