Rotten Tomatoes also lists the film as rated PG-13, with a 1h 58m runtime. It is listed as available on Disney+ for streaming and through Fandango for rental or purchase. Availability changes by region and over time, so check the film’s page before you plan to watch.
How the score has moved since opening weekend
The Associated Press reported figures on February 16, 2025, during the film’s opening weekend. Those numbers were a snapshot from that moment, and they are not the current ratings. Comparing them with the present listing shows how much the reported figures can change:

The table shows that the score in February 2025 was higher than it is in the current listing. Because the earlier figure is one dated snapshot, it cannot establish a trend by itself, and this article does not describe the score as falling over time.
AP’s report also gave opening-weekend box office figures. According to studio estimates, the film earned $88.5 million in North American ticket sales that weekend, playing in 4,105 U.S. and Canadian locations. AP also cited a reported production price tag of $180 million, which excludes marketing and promotion. That number was reported, not audited.
Is “one of the MCU’s lowest” a fair description?
A 46% critics score sits in the low range for Marvel Studios films, and the broad description is supported by the figure itself. The more specific claim, that the film ranks among the lowest of all MCU releases, depends on a full comparison that has to use the same metric and the same date for every film. Without that, a numbered rank would overstate what the evidence shows.

The one ranking available with a date comes from AP’s February 2025 report. At that time, AP put Eternals at 47% and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania at 46% on the Tomatometer, both below Brave New World’s 51% from that same snapshot. The current listing shows the film at 46%, which matches the February 2025 figure for Quantumania. That match is a coincidence of two dated snapshots, not evidence of a current ranking.

Rotten Tomatoes’ first-reviews roundup described early critical reaction as mixed. Reviewers praised Anthony Mackie’s performance as Sam Wilson and the film’s action sequences. The complaints were more consistent. Critics said the movie felt routine, lacked political force, or leaned on MCU backstory. Mark Kennedy, the Associated Press reviewer, took a harsher line in his own review, calling the film “a highly processed, empty calorie, regret-later candy of a movie.” That line is his opinion and is not a statement from AP as an outlet, and it is separate from AP’s score reporting.
Do you need to be caught up on the MCU?
The reviews point in two directions. Critics who admired the film’s espionage tone treated it as a self-contained story. Critics who found it overstuffed argued that its callbacks and continuity work worked against it as a standalone movie. The consensus quoted above leans toward the second view, which means first-time viewers may find some of the references confusing or unrewarding.
