“Can’t access Amazon Music” can mean a sign-in loop, a missing subscription, locked songs, an empty library, failed playback, or an Echo that no longer responds. Start by testing the Amazon Music web player, then verify the Amazon account and billing plan before clearing app data or reinstalling anything. That order separates account problems from device and network problems while protecting playlists and downloads.
Identify the failure before changing anything
| What you see | Most likely category |
|---|---|
| Wrong password, repeated sign-in loop, or verification failure | Amazon credentials, two-step verification, or a stale browser/app session |
| The app opens but shows no subscription | Wrong Amazon account, expired membership, billing issue, or country/region mismatch |
| The subscription is visible but songs are locked | Plan entitlement, payment failure, title availability, profile, or device issue |
| Music works on one device but not another | Authorization, app version, compatibility, network, or account mismatch |
| Library or playlists are empty | Wrong account or unsynchronized app data |
| Songs buffer or stop | Wi-Fi/cellular connection, permission, app state, or device capability |
| Purchased songs are missing | Wrong purchasing account, library filter, region, or account issue |
| Alexa says it cannot play a request | Different Amazon account, music-provider setting, or plan limitation |
| Echo or Fire TV cannot access music | Device registration, household account association, app, or Alexa state |
Do not begin by repeatedly clearing caches. If the account has no entitlement, device resets cannot restore it.
Use the web player as the dividing test
- Open Amazon in a browser and sign out of unrelated Amazon accounts.
- Sign in with the account that originally bought the music, Prime membership, or Music Unlimited plan.
- Open Your Amazon Music Settings and check the plan.
- Play music and check whether your library and playlists appear in the web player.
If the web player works, concentrate on the affected app, device, network, or authorization. If it also lacks the subscription or library, stop reinstalling the app and investigate account ownership, billing, region, or purchase history. Amazon’s support hub covers account and region assistance at Amazon Music support.
Recover the original account
Use Amazon’s account-recovery process for genuine credential problems rather than creating a new account. A new account has no access to the original subscription, playlists, or purchases. Never share a password, one-time code, payment number, or unredacted screenshot with anyone offering help.

Confirm the plan and billing channel
Amazon Music access depends on the entitlement attached to the signed-in account:
- Amazon Music Prime: Comes with an eligible Prime membership, with feature and playback limits that can differ from Unlimited.
- Amazon Music Unlimited: A separate subscription for broader on-demand access.
- Family: Amazon’s FAQ describes simultaneous listening for up to six family members.
- Single Device: Intended for one Echo or Fire TV; it is not the right plan for a phone, computer, or several devices.
- Apple-billed subscription: A subscription bought through the Amazon Music iOS app is billed and managed through Apple, not the normal Amazon subscription controls.
- Purchased music: MP3 purchases are a separate entitlement from subscription downloads.
Check Your Amazon Music Settings, Amazon payment methods, renewal status, trial end date, and recent declined or expired cards. A billing failure is a possibility to verify, not proof of the cause. Amazon’s plan and billing details are at Amazon Music’s FAQ; Apple-account management information is also documented by Amazon at its subscription help page.
U.S. price signals
Amazon’s FAQ showed these U.S. figures in the August 18, 2026 information set: Unlimited Individual at $10.99 per month or $109 per year for Prime members, $11.99 per month for non-Prime customers, Family at $19.99 per month or $199 per year, and Single Device at $5.99 per month. The Unlimited landing page also displayed a limited-time trial and a post-promotion signal of $11.99 per month, or $10.99 for Prime customers. Promotions, taxes, country, billing channel, eligibility, and account history can change the offer, so use the checkout screen as the final price.

Repair the app in the least destructive order
- Confirm internet access and test the web player or another device.
- Force-stop the app and reopen it.
- Update Amazon Music and the device operating system where updates are available.
- Sign out and back in.
- Restart the device.
- Refresh or reload the library.
- Clear cache where the platform supports it.
- Reinstall only after confirming the correct account and subscription; local downloads may be removed.
Amazon lists these paths separately in its app troubleshooting guidance.

- Open Amazon Music.
- Tap the Settings icon, choose Settings, scroll to Storage, and select Clear Cache.
For an unresponsive Android app, use device Settings → Apps & notifications → Amazon Music → Force Stop, as described at Amazon’s Android instructions. Android manufacturer and OS labels may differ.
iPhone and iPad
iOS does not provide an option to clear all Amazon Music caches. Use Amazon Music → gear icon → Settings → Refresh My Music, following Amazon’s refresh instructions. Refreshing is less disruptive than deleting and reinstalling the app.

When songs buffer, pause, or will not play
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- Allow cellular data for Amazon Music in the phone’s settings.
- Try a different song, network, device, and the web player.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or private DNS as a diagnostic test.
- Try standard quality instead of HD or Ultra HD if the connection or hardware may not support it.
Force-stop and reopen the app after changing the connection. Amazon’s streaming guidance covers connectivity, cellular permissions, and audio-quality capability at this help page. Do not label the service “down” without current evidence; a failure on one device or network is not proof of an outage.

Check the 10-device authorization limit
Amazon Music permits up to 10 authorized devices. Mobile and tablet apps require authorization; browser streaming and purchases do not. Manage devices through Your Amazon Music Settings → Manage Your Devices, as documented at Amazon’s device-management page.
- Remove an old or unrecognized device.
- Sign in on the intended device with the correct Amazon account.
Amazon warns that a deauthorized-device slot may take 30 days to become available. Do not cycle authorization and deauthorization as a routine quick fix.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Alexa, Echo, Fire TV, and connected devices
- Confirm Alexa, Amazon Music, and the Echo or Fire TV are using the same Amazon account.
- Check that the device is registered to the intended account and household.
- Play a track directly in the Amazon Music app.
- If the app works but Alexa does not, inspect Alexa’s music-provider settings and device association.
- Check whether a household member’s account or profile is active.
The Single Device plan covers one Echo or Fire TV, not broad multi-device listening. Amazon’s device help explains registration consequences at this page; an account mismatch involving Alexa is also illustrated in Amazon’s forum discussion. Deregistering a device can temporarily disconnect it from other Amazon services and should be a later step.

Find missing songs, playlists, downloads, or purchases
Subscription catalog songs
Check the account, plan, region, library filters, synchronization, and title availability. A missing track does not by itself mean the entire library was deleted; licensing and regional catalogs can change.
Playlists and personal library
- Verify the account in the web player.
- Sign out and back in.
- Use Refresh My Music on iOS or Reload My Music on desktop.
- Check whether another Amazon account or profile created the playlist.
Offline subscription downloads
Downloaded subscription tracks depend on an active entitlement and authorized app/device. They are not permanent owned files; they may become unavailable after a plan ends or changes.
Purchased MP3s
Verify the purchasing account and use Amazon Music’s purchased-music library rather than treating purchases as subscription downloads. Amazon provides a dedicated path through its support hub.
Region, travel, and marketplace changes
Eligibility and catalogs can vary by country or region. Moving, changing marketplace settings, or traveling may alter what appears even when the login is correct. Use Amazon’s region-transfer help linked from the Amazon Music support hub; do not assume a specific travel rule without identifying the country and plan.
