You can send a pre-recorded 4K video to YouTube Live continuously using an encoder or a cloud playout service. For an unattended stream, the key decisions are how the video will loop, whether your connection can sustain the chosen 4K settings, and how you will monitor the stream and preserve a replay.
Ways to keep a pre-recorded video live
YouTube accepts video from encoders, which can be software or standalone hardware. Its encoder directory lists OBS as software and describes Gyre as a cloud service for continuous 24/7 streams of pre-recorded video, including 4K. These are directory descriptions, not guarantees of uptime or proof that every encoder provides an automated playlist workflow. YouTube’s encoder directory identifies available encoder options.
| Approach | What it means for a continuous stream |
|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud playout for uploaded videos to YouTube; one flat price per slot at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with a free first day. |
| Local software encoder | A computer sends the video to YouTube. You control the host and settings, but it must stay powered, connected, and monitored. YouTube’s listing of OBS does not establish that OBS alone supplies an automated 24/7 playlist workflow. |
| Cloud playout service | A service handles file playout remotely. YouTube’s directory describes Gyre specifically for continuous pre-recorded streams in Full HD and 4K; that description is not an independent reliability assessment. |
For a DIY setup, confirm that the encoder can repeat or sequence files as needed. A successful stream start does not by itself confirm that a playlist will continue indefinitely.
Set up a 4K stream with a local encoder
- Check channel eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Confirm these requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance.
- Prepare your video and rights. Confirm the file’s resolution, frame rate, audio, and playback duration. Make sure you have the rights to every video and audio element, including material that will repeat. Live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Set up the live stream and copy its stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or publish it. Use the ingest settings YouTube provides for the stream.
- Match output to your source. Do not upscale a lower-resolution file simply to label it 4K. Set the encoder’s resolution and frame rate to match the source and the quality you intend to deliver.
- Choose a supported encoding configuration. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- Set a bitrate that your upload can sustain. YouTube’s settings accessed on 2026-10-03 give these 2160p recommendations:
| 2160p output | AV1/HEVC range | H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 30 fps | 8–35 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 60 fps | 10–40 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published settings, not a promise that every source file, encoder, or internet connection can sustain them. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom; include any backup stream when estimating total outbound bandwidth. See the settings table and YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Configure looping and start a test. If your encoder supports file playlists, check repeat behavior and transitions. Preview the stream in Live Control Room before relying on it for an extended broadcast.
- Monitor after launch. Check stream health messages and verify both audio and video. For a long unattended run, arrange periodic checks rather than assuming a successful start means the stream will remain healthy.
What 4K viewers and replay limits mean
YouTube says 2160p streams use normal latency; its low-latency optimization is unavailable for 4K. Viewers may see different playback resolutions because YouTube transcodes the incoming live stream into multiple output formats.
YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, including 1440p and 2160p streams. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. If you need a complete replay, record a local archive rather than relying solely on YouTube’s archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Troubleshooting a continuous 4K stream
- The stream will not start: Confirm the channel is verified and eligible, the stream key is current and entered correctly, and the encoder is using YouTube’s supplied ingest settings.
- The stream health is poor or video drops: Check whether the upload connection can sustain the total bitrate with headroom. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the connection is unstable; test again before leaving the stream unattended.
- The output is not 4K: Check the source resolution and encoder output settings. YouTube transcodes live input, so the resolution available to viewers may take time to appear and may vary by viewer.
- The video stops at the end of a file: Verify that the encoder or playout service is configured to repeat the file or continue to the next playlist item. Do not assume that every encoder listed by YouTube includes this behavior.
- Audio or video is missing or wrong: Preview representative motion and audio before launch, then check both in Live Control Room after starting.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if the complete archive matters.
- The stream is restricted or removed: Review channel eligibility, YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and the rights for every video and audio element.
Costs and practical trade-offs
A local encoder avoids a separate cloud playout subscription but requires a suitable computer, power, a stable upload connection, and someone or something to monitor the run. A cloud workflow reduces dependence on equipment and connectivity at home, but you still need to manage the source files, stream key, rights, and YouTube channel. YouTube’s published bitrate requirements help estimate upload needs; they do not establish a universal hardware cost or guarantee of uninterrupted service.
