Yes, you can stream prerecorded meditation videos without OBS—but a YouTube playlist by itself cannot become a live stream. You need an encoder or equivalent service to play the videos and send a continuous live feed to YouTube. OBS is one option, not a requirement.
Why a YouTube playlist is not enough
A regular YouTube channel playlist organizes videos for viewers; it does not send them to YouTube Live as a live broadcast. YouTube’s live workflow requires an incoming feed from an encoder. As YouTube explains, “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder connects to YouTube using the Live server URL and stream key. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software, cloud-based Gyre, and the AJA HELO Plus among encoder options. These are different ways to make and send the live feed; none means that a channel playlist itself is acting as the encoder. Set up a playlist-based live stream
- Prepare the videos. Put the meditation recordings in the order you want them played, and decide whether the stream should repeat them. With a local encoder, configure the playback or scene workflow in that software; with a cloud service, upload the media and build its playlist there. A YouTube channel playlist alone will not feed the live broadcast.
- Enable live streaming on YouTube. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours. Once enabled, a stream can go live instantly. Check the current YouTube setup instructions for the applicable channel steps.
- Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides the Live server URL and stream key used to connect your encoder or streaming service.
- Add the connection details to the encoder or service. Enter the server URL and stream key where requested, then configure the media playback or playlist. Keep the stream key secret: it identifies the stream connection to YouTube.
- Start the feed and confirm it in YouTube Studio. Start the encoder or cloud service, then check YouTube’s live control room for the incoming feed and stream status before relying on unattended playback.
Check content rights before going live
Confirm you have the rights to every video, music track, and ambient recording in the stream. A meditation theme does not make a recording copyright-free, and this applies to both original videos and material sourced from a library. Can I use HLS playlist instructions to broadcast my uploaded meditation playlist?
No. YouTube’s HLS media playlist is a technical sequence of live-stream segments sent by an encoder, not a channel playlist of uploaded videos.
