Short answer: Sky Go in the UK and Republic of Ireland does not currently list Amazon Fire TV Stick as a supported app or casting destination. A compatible Android phone may mirror its screen to some Fire TV devices, but Sky Go playback can be blocked by content protection. iPhone and iPad users should not assume that a Fire TV Stick accepts AirPlay.
Sky Go is region-specific, so instructions for Sky Go New Zealand—where official Chromecast and AirPlay support is documented—do not establish the same support for the UK or Ireland.
What “casting to Firestick” actually means
These methods are different:
- Native casting: A Cast button in Sky Go sends playback to a compatible receiver.
- Screen mirroring: Fire TV reproduces the entire phone or tablet display through a wireless-display protocol.
- AirPlay: Apple’s media and screen-sharing system; it is not the same as Android Miracast.
- Installing Sky Go on Fire TV: The app runs directly on the stick, if the platform is officially supported.
- Chromecast: Casting to a television or device with built-in Google Cast is not automatically casting to a Fire TV Stick.
Is Sky Go available on Fire TV Stick?
Sky’s UK/ROI compatibility table, checked on 16 August 2026, lists Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad, Mac, Windows PC, Chromebook, selected Apple TV models, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox consoles. It does not list Fire TV Stick or Fire TV. See Sky’s current compatibility table before relying on any device list, because operating-system and app requirements can change.
The table’s references to Amazon phones or tablets do not mean Amazon Fire TV hardware is supported. Sky’s older announcement about Fire tablet support concerns tablets, not television sticks. An APK found online is not proof of compatibility: sideloaded software can be outdated, region-restricted, fail device or DRM checks, create account and security risks, or breach service terms.

Can Sky Go’s Cast button send video to a Firestick?
Amazon’s documented app-casting route works only when the app supports casting to Fire TV, the Fire TV is running Fire OS 7 or later, and the phone and Fire TV are normally on the same Wi-Fi network. Details are in Amazon’s casting guidance.
Sky Go UK/ROI is not identified there or in Sky’s device list as a supported Fire TV casting app. Consequently, the stick may not appear in Sky Go’s device picker, or Sky Go may provide no Cast button. A Cast button in another streaming app does not make Fire TV a universal Chromecast receiver.

Android: an unofficial mirroring experiment
Some Fire TV models expose Miracast-style mirroring. This is a device-level workaround, not official Sky Go casting, and it may mirror menus while refusing protected programme video.
Check the requirements
- A Fire TV model that offers Display Mirroring.
- An Android phone or tablet supporting Miracast or a compatible wireless-display standard.
- Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, reasonably close together; Amazon suggests no more than 30 feet (10 metres) while troubleshooting.
- The legitimate Sky Go app installed from Google Play and a valid Sky iD.
Put Fire TV into pairing mode
- Turn on the Fire TV Stick.
- Open Settings.
- Select Display & Audio.
- Select Enable Display Mirroring.
- Leave the pairing screen open. Amazon documents this path at its Fire TV mirroring guide.
Connect from Android
Open the phone’s quick settings or Settings and look for Cast, Screen Cast, Smart View, Wireless display, Screen share or Miracast. Select the Fire TV device when it appears, then open Sky Go.

Labels vary by manufacturer. Amazon notes that both devices must support screen mirroring and that the option may not appear on incompatible Fire TV hardware; see Amazon’s compatibility troubleshooting.
Interpret the result
- Phone screen appears: Basic mirroring works, but Sky Go video may still be blocked.
- Fire TV is not listed: The model, phone protocol, Wi-Fi, or router may be incompatible.
- Black video with menus visible: Protected-video output is a likely cause.
- Audio without picture: Another common protected-content failure.
- Playback stops when the phone locks: Normal for many mirroring arrangements.
iPhone and iPad: why AirPlay is not a Firestick guarantee
Amazon’s Fire TV Miracast method does not support iOS or macOS devices. Its AirPlay documentation concerns supported Fire TV Smart TVs, with the control path Settings > Display & Audio > AirPlay & HomeKit; Amazon says AirPlay is not compatible with every Fire TV Smart TV, let alone every Fire TV Stick. - Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Third-party AirPlay receiver apps can make a Fire TV visible for ordinary photos or unprotected video, but they do not guarantee that Sky Go’s protected stream will play. They can also add subscriptions, advertising, privacy exposure, latency and maintenance problems. A supported Apple TV is the more predictable Apple-platform route.

Sky Go New Zealand’s official pages explicitly describe Chromecast support and AirPlay to supported Apple TV models: device and Chromecast information and AirPlay information. Those policies do not apply automatically to Sky Go UK or Ireland. Check the country associated with your Sky service before following Chromecast instructions found online.

Supported ways to watch Sky Go on a television

Sky Go Extra expands eligible device, download and concurrent-streaming allowances. It does not establish Fire TV Stick compatibility.
Troubleshooting before you give up
- Put phone and Fire TV on the same non-guest Wi-Fi network.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, private DNS or router client-isolation feature.
- Restart the phone, Fire TV and router; install available Sky Go and Fire OS updates.
- Check whether Enable Display Mirroring exists on the Fire TV.
- Test mirroring with an unprotected app. If that works but Sky Go shows a black screen, the issue is probably content protection rather than discovery.
- Do not root the device, disable security controls, use modified APKs or attempt to bypass DRM.
Choosing the sensible option
If you already own an Android phone and a compatible Fire TV, mirroring is a free experiment with no guarantee of usable Sky Go playback. If you use an iPhone or iPad, skip the Miracast instructions and do not buy a Fire TV Stick expecting AirPlay. For reliable UK/ROI television viewing, choose a platform Sky currently lists—Apple TV, an eligible console or a computer—or investigate a Sky television product that fits your subscription.
