Yes. SEGA describes Sonic as running at supersonic speed. The often-cited figure of 767 mph comes from an Apple App Store editorial comparison, not a documented measurement or a universal speed limit for every version of the character.
How fast does SEGA say Sonic can run?
SEGA’s official Sonic Channel character profile describes Sonic as running through any place at supersonic speed and lists his running speed as “超音速,” meaning supersonic. SEGA’s Sonic Origins manual likewise calls him “The world’s fastest supersonic hedgehog.” These are official descriptions, but neither supplies a specific measured top speed.
Where does the 767 mph figure come from?
An Apple App Store feature, “Just How Fast Is Sonic?”, lists Sonic at 767 mph and compares that figure with the speed of sound at 68°F. The feature does not describe a measurement method. Treat 767 mph as an editorial comparison, not a real-world test result or a speed SEGA establishes as Sonic’s fixed maximum.
Is 767 mph Sonic’s speed in every game or adaptation?
No single numeric top speed across Sonic’s games and other portrayals is established by these sources. The useful distinction is between SEGA’s qualitative description—supersonic—and the App Store feature’s attributed 767 mph comparison. A particular game scene or adaptation may portray Sonic differently; these sources do not establish one figure that applies to all of them.
