Not reliably established. PRISM Live Studio documents that Android broadcasts can continue while the app runs in the background as you use other apps, provided you enable “Allow display over other apps.” That is different from locking the phone or turning off its display, which PRISM’s guidance does not confirm. PRISM says background live broadcasting is unsupported on iOS.
What PRISM’s guidance does—and does not—confirm
PRISM’s Help Center says its app can continue broadcasting live when running in the background. For Android, it directs users to enable “Allow display over other apps” so broadcasting can continue while they open or use other apps. The examples include answering a call or opening another app. This describes app backgrounding; it is not a promise that the physical screen can be locked or switched off. The distinction matters: putting PRISM behind another app leaves the phone operating with its display on, whereas locking the device or turning off the display is a separate condition. The official guidance cited here does not establish that PRISM will keep streaming in that condition.
Android: using another app versus turning off the display
When you switch to another app
PRISM documents background broadcasting on Android. Enable the Android permission “Allow display over other apps” for the documented use case of continuing a broadcast while using another app. Android’s settings layout can vary by device and OS version, so use your phone’s Settings search for that permission if the path differs.

When you lock the phone or switch off its display
PRISM’s background instructions do not say that a broadcast continues with the display off. One Reddit user reported that their PRISM stream ended when they turned off the display, but that is an individual account—not a compatibility test across phones, Android versions, PRISM releases, or streaming modes. If screen-off operation is essential, test the exact phone, OS version, PRISM release, and broadcast mode before relying on it. Confirm the stream from another device after locking the phone; do not infer screen-off support from the Android permission for using other apps.

iPhone and iPad: background live broadcasting is unsupported
PRISM says iOS apps do not support background live broadcasting because of platform OS policies. Its screen-casting instructions discuss iOS ReplayKit and the system broadcast prompt, but do not describe an exception that allows a live broadcast to continue when the display is off. Do not confuse PRISM’s screen saver with a powered-off screen
PRISM materials describe a screen saver or protection effect for hiding private content during screen sharing; Android release notes also refer to a “Screen Saver” effect. What this means for different streaming modes
The published background guidance does not provide a device-by-device compatibility matrix or settle every camera-live and screencast configuration. PRISM’s separate screencast material explains screen-sharing setup, including an Android floating widget and iOS ReplayKit, but does not verify display-off operation. Treat switching apps, screen casting, and turning off the physical display as distinct cases rather than assuming a result for one applies to the others.
