A viewer in India can send a Super Chat during an eligible YouTube Premiere if the creator has enabled Supers and live chat is available. A Premiere lets viewers watch uploaded, pre-recorded video together while chatting in real time. A regular upload—or a replay after its live chat has ended—is different: viewers cannot add a Super Chat to it later.
Which pre-recorded YouTube formats support Super Chat?
The key distinction is whether viewers are attending an event with active live chat. YouTube Help describes Premieres as a way to watch a pre-recorded video together, with chat during the event; its Premiere guidance says viewers can purchase Super Chats to highlight messages in that chat.
| Format | Can viewers send a Super Chat? | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Premiere | Yes, if eligible | The Premiere is underway, live chat is available, the creator has enabled Super Chat, and channel and video requirements are met. |
| Live stream | Yes, if eligible | Super Chat is a purchase made through the active live chat, subject to creator and video eligibility. |
| Ordinary uploaded video | No | A regular video does not have an active Premiere chat event for Super Chat. |
| Replay after a live stream or Premiere | No, not after the event chat has ended | YouTube says Super Chats do not transfer between videos. A replay is a video, not a continuation of the earlier chat event. |
YouTube Help’s “YouTube Premiere tips” also describes Premieres as a way to bring Super Chat and Super Stickers to pre-recorded content. That applies to the Premiere event, not to a later replay.
Is Super Chat available in India?
India is on YouTube’s list of locations where eligible creators can use Super Chat and Super Stickers. That location listing concerns the creator’s eligibility; it does not mean every channel or video qualifies, and it does not by itself guarantee that the button will appear for a particular viewer. YouTube’s eligibility and policy requirements still apply to the creator, channel, and video.

What can make the Super Chat button unavailable?
YouTube’s “Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability and policies” lists several cases where Supers are unavailable. Check these conditions if the button is missing:
- The creator or channel does not meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements, is not in a supported location, or has not accepted or complied with the applicable terms and policies.
- The video is age-restricted, unlisted, private, marked Made for Kids, or associated with a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- Live chat or comments are turned off.
- The viewer is looking at a regular upload or a post-event replay rather than an active Premiere or live chat.
These are YouTube availability rules, not a restriction specific to Indian viewers. India being supported does not override any of them.

How to send a Super Chat during a Premiere
- Open the Premiere while it is underway and confirm that its live chat is visible.
- In the live chat, select the dollar-sign icon and choose Super Chat.
- Choose an amount and, if you want, add a message.
- Select Buy and send and complete the purchase using the options YouTube presents.
YouTube Help’s “Buy a Super Chat or Super Sticker — Computer” explains that a Super Chat may be pinned based on its purchase value. The creator may end the chat or stream before a pin timer expires, and a purchase does not transfer to another video. The help guidance says creators receive the majority of Super Chat and Super Sticker revenue but does not specify a share there.

If you want Super Chats on pre-recorded material, schedule it as a YouTube Premiere and make sure live chat and Super Chat are available for the event. If you instead publish the video as an ordinary upload, or leave only a replay after the event ends, viewers should not expect an active Super Chat opportunity on that later video.
