Yes. You can keep recorded lessons live on YouTube while your computer is off by using a cloud-hosted service that plays and sends the videos, or suitable standalone hardware that does the same job. Your computer-based encoder, such as OBS, cannot keep sending the stream after that computer is shut down.
Ways to keep recorded lessons streaming
In each setup, something other than YouTube itself has to play the lesson files and send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming, and its encoder guidance covers software, standalone hardware, and cloud-based tools. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre in its verified encoder section.

What to check before you start
Enable livestreaming on your YouTube channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If you are enabling livestreaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until just before a planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Choose the lesson sequence and broadcast plan
Decide whether the lessons should play in a fixed order, repeat as a playlist, or run as one scheduled event. Check the selected service or device’s own duration and scheduling limits; these are provider-specific, not universal YouTube rules. For example, OneStream’s help page, last updated September 3, 2026, says its 24/7 feature requires Enterprise and allows a maximum duration of 30 days.
Prepare the stream key and lesson files
YouTube’s encoder workflow connects through a server URL and stream key in the Live Control Room. Enter the key only in the provider or device you selected, treat it as a credential, and follow that product’s setup directions. A stream key gives access to your broadcast setup; do not publish or share it. Confirm the lesson files play correctly and that the selected workflow can loop or schedule them as intended.

Check rights and YouTube rules
Use lesson recordings you have permission to broadcast, including any music, images, clips, or other material embedded in them. All livestream content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A cloud host or encoder does not grant content rights or exempt a broadcast from platform rules. How to set up a cloud stream
- Confirm channel eligibility. Verify the channel and enable livestreaming in YouTube Studio early enough to allow for first-time activation.
- Choose a cloud provider and confirm its limits. Check that the service supports YouTube, prerecorded playback, the playlist behavior you need, and your intended stream duration.
- Upload the lesson recording or build a playlist. Arrange the lessons in the desired sequence and check playback before going live.
- Connect the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, use the stream URL and stream key required by the selected provider. Keep the key private.
- Start the cloud stream and verify it in YouTube. Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the expected lesson is playing. Only after the provider’s cloud stream is active can your own computer be turned off.
Archives, long broadcasts, and continuity
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete archive. If you need a complete record of the lessons, retain the original files and confirm how the chosen provider and YouTube handle archives for your specific broadcast plan. A single uninterrupted event and a recurring scheduled stream may have different archive implications.

No setup guarantees uninterrupted delivery or increased watch time, subscribers, or revenue. The cloud provider or hardware encoder is responsible for generating and sending the feed; YouTube’s guidance does not promise that every 24/7 broadcast will remain connected.
Troubleshooting
- The stream stops when the computer shuts down: The active source is probably a computer-based encoder. Use a cloud-hosted workflow or standalone hardware that itself plays and sends the prerecorded content.
- You cannot start a YouTube broadcast: Check channel verification and livestream eligibility, including whether the channel has a restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The provider cannot connect to YouTube: Check that the stream URL and stream key match the current broadcast setup. Keep the key private; if it has been exposed, replace it through YouTube’s controls and update the provider.
- The stream ends before the planned stop: Check the provider’s maximum duration and plan requirements. OneStream’s documented 30-day limit applies to its own 24/7 feature, not to all providers.
- You need a complete archive: Do not assume a 24/7 stream is saved as one file. YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; keep source recordings and check archive handling for your setup.
- A lesson is muted, blocked, or otherwise restricted: Review the rights for all material in the recording and YouTube’s content rules. Changing encoders does not resolve a rights or policy issue.
