It can be a low-power computer for playing YouTube on a TV or monitor, but whether buying one saves money depends on its full purchase price, measured electricity use and what device or paid service you would otherwise use. YouTube TV is a separate paid live-TV service; buying a playback computer does not replace its channels or cloud DVR.
First, which “cloud streaming” cost do you mean?
The phrase can refer to different things, and the comparison changes with the use case:
- Watching ordinary YouTube videos: You need a playback device and internet access. If you already own a TV, computer, phone or streaming device that plays YouTube, an N100 mini PC is an optional additional purchase—not a replacement for a YouTube viewing fee.
- YouTube TV: This is a paid live-TV service with on-demand programming and unlimited cloud DVR on its main U.S. plan. A mini PC can be a device for watching a service where supported, but it does not provide the service or remove its subscription fee. The official plans page listed the main plan at $82.99 per month after promotional pricing when accessed October 3, 2026; promotions have eligibility and end-date terms, and the price can change. Check YouTube TV’s current plans and terms.
- Cloud gaming: This is a different category from YouTube video or YouTube TV. For example, NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW has its own system and network requirements; those are not evidence of a YouTube subscription or playback-device cost. See GeForce NOW system requirements.
So an N100 can potentially reduce the cost of adding a capable playback device, especially compared with buying a more expensive computer for that purpose. It cannot be said to “beat cloud streaming costs” universally without naming the specific device or service being compared.
What an Intel N100 mini PC can—and cannot—tell you
Intel specifies the N100 processor with four cores and four threads, Intel UHD Graphics, Quick Sync Video, 4K display support at 60 Hz, and a 6 W thermal design power (TDP). Those specifications establish processor capabilities, not guaranteed performance or compatibility for every mini PC, browser, app, video format or display. Intel N100 specifications.

Most importantly, 6 W TDP is not the mini PC’s measured power draw while playing YouTube. It describes the processor’s thermal design specification; the complete system also includes memory, storage, networking and other components. Actual playback power varies with the model and conditions. Do not use 6 W as though it were a whole-system measurement or an electricity-bill estimate.
There are real N100 mini-PC products: GIGABYTE, for example, documents an N100-based BRIX barebone. A barebone is not necessarily a ready-to-use computer with all required memory, storage or software included, and its final cost depends on configuration. GIGABYTE GB-BNIP-N100 product information.

How to calculate your break-even point
There is no reliable universal payback figure without a specific system price, measured playback power, viewing schedule, local electricity rate, ownership period and alternative. Gather those inputs, then compare the total costs over the same period.
1. Work out the actual upfront cost
Use the price of the exact N100 system you would buy, including any required memory, storage, operating system, cables or adapters. For a barebone, add the components needed to make it usable. Compare against your real alternative: for example, a streaming device you would otherwise buy, or the TV or computer you already own. An already-owned device has no new purchase cost for this decision.

2. Measure whole-system playback power
Use a plug-in power meter to measure the configured mini PC while it plays the type of video and resolution you expect to watch. Measure the whole system, not the processor’s TDP. If power varies, record a representative session and use its average watts. Keep the display’s electricity separate unless it is also a new or changed cost in your comparison.

Playback cost = (measured watts Ă· 1,000) Ă— viewing hours Ă— electricity price per kWh.
Use the rate on your electricity bill and the viewing hours in your chosen period. If you want an annual estimate, calculate annual viewing hours explicitly; do not treat a short measurement as a whole-year result.

For context, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a 2025 U.S. residential annual average of 17.30¢ per kWh, based on preliminary February 2026 Electric Power Monthly data. Its reported state range was 8.20¢ per kWh in North Dakota to 35.72¢ per kWh in Hawaii. These are U.S. reference figures, not a substitute for your own bill rate; electricity costs vary by location and customer. EIA residential electricity prices.
4. Keep device and service fees separate
Add any subscription you will actually pay to both sides of the comparison. If you need YouTube TV, its service fee remains a service fee whether you watch on an N100 PC, a television or another supported device. If you only watch ordinary YouTube videos, do not count a YouTube TV subscription unless you would actually buy it.
5. Compare over a defined ownership period
For a chosen period, add the N100 system’s upfront cost and its estimated playback electricity. Compare that total with the alternative’s purchase cost and electricity for the same period, including any applicable subscription fees on each side. A useful result depends on your selected system and period; the sources do not establish an N100 lifespan, resale value or a general payback point.

- You want a small general-purpose computer connected to a display, not only a YouTube player.
- The specific mini PC has the ports, memory, storage, cooling and software support you need.
- You have checked that its browser or app plays your intended content at the resolution you want.
- You can compare its configured purchase cost and measured whole-system playback power with a realistic alternative.
Intel’s 4K-at-60-Hz specification describes processor/display capability. It does not guarantee that every N100 model has a particular connector, that a given browser or service will deliver every video in 4K, or that playback will be smooth in every configuration. Check the exact PC and service requirements before buying.
