Can ACT Fibernet Upload Enough for a Stable 4K 60fps YouTube Live Stream?

ACT Fibernet may support 4K60 YouTube Live, but plan speed alone does not prove stability. Check the upload you can sustain against YouTube’s codec-specific bitrate targets and test a representative stream.

Potentially—but an ACT plan’s advertised speed alone cannot establish that your connection will hold a stable 4K60 YouTube Live stream. YouTube recommends an encoder bitrate of 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps for H.264. Your actual upload needs to sustain the chosen rate with headroom for fluctuations and other network use.

How much upload does 4K60 YouTube Live need?

YouTube Help’s encoder guidance recommends these bitrates for 4K/2160p at 60 frames per second:

Encoder codec YouTube-recommended bitrate YouTube-listed minimum encoder setting
AV1 or H.265 35 Mbps 10 Mbps
H.264 50 Mbps 14 Mbps

The minimums are encoder-setting minima, not evidence that an internet connection at those rates will be stable or deliver recommended-quality ingest. Use the recommended rate for your codec as the practical target, then leave extra capacity rather than matching the connection’s measured upload exactly. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and checking stream health before relying on a stream. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Do not assume your computer or capture setup supports AV1 or H.265. Check the encoder’s available options and use the bitrate guidance for the codec you actually select.

What ACT’s published figures do—and do not—show

ACT’s live-streaming guidance lists 20 Mbps as the minimum upload speed for YouTube 4K/2160p at 60fps. That is below YouTube’s current recommended bitrate for either AV1/H.265 or H.264, so it is not a reliable substitute for YouTube’s codec-specific recommendations or a guarantee of a stable stream. The same ACT article also recommends at least 100 Mbps upload for live streaming generally, without explaining how that broad recommendation relates to its resolution-specific table. ACT: What Internet Speed You Need For Live Streaming?

For Bengaluru, ACT’s published Performance Pack tiers include 50, 100, 200, 400, 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps. ACT states that its Bangalore Wi-Fi plans have equal upload and download speeds. This makes 4K60 plausible on an eligible, well-performing Bengaluru line, particularly with a codec whose recommended target is 35 Mbps. But those are provider-published plan details, not a measurement of a subscriber’s sustained upstream speed. Availability and terms are city-specific; do not assume Bengaluru tiers or symmetry apply at another address. ACT Bengaluru broadband plans and ACT broadband and Wi-Fi plans.

How to decide whether your ACT connection is stable enough

  1. Check the plan for your own address. Confirm the advertised upload rate, not just download speed, and check any plan-specific terms. ACT’s city plan directory provides city-specific plan information.
  2. Measure upload performance at stream time. Run repeated upload tests at the times you expect to go live, with household devices and uploads in their normal state. Compare results with your codec’s 35 Mbps AV1/H.265 or 50 Mbps H.264 target; results that only briefly reach the target leave little margin for variation.
  3. Use Ethernet from the streaming computer to the router. ACT identifies Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet as a wired option and notes that wired connections can be more consistent than wireless. A cable can improve the local connection between your computer and router, but it cannot add upload capacity to the ACT line. ACT: Everything You Need To Know About Internet Speeds.
  4. Reduce avoidable competing traffic. Pause large uploads and account for other active devices. ACT identifies connection type, router placement and distance, wiring, and connected devices as factors affecting available speed. ACT live-streaming guidance.
  5. Run a representative private or unlisted test stream. Use the actual encoder, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio, and representative movement. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

If repeated upload results stay comfortably above your chosen bitrate and the representative test stream remains healthy, the connection is a reasonable candidate for 4K60. If performance fluctuates near or below target, reduce bitrate or move to a lower resolution such as 1440p60 or 1080p60, or investigate the local network and ISP bottleneck before an important stream.

What to do if the stream is unstable

  • Upload speed dips or stream health degrades: pause competing uploads, test over Ethernet, and repeat measurements at the affected time. If the line still cannot sustain the target, lower bitrate or resolution.
  • Wi-Fi results vary by room or time: test closer to the router or use Ethernet. Router distance and wireless conditions affect the local link; a cable will not fix insufficient broadband upload capacity.
  • Measured upload looks adequate but the private stream struggles: confirm that the encoder is using the intended codec and bitrate, then test again with representative motion and audio. A single speed test does not establish sustained stream stability.
  • Only a lower setting behaves reliably: use that setting for the event rather than treating the advertised plan tier or ACT’s 20 Mbps table entry as a stability promise.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running, StreamNeo is a different option from sending a live encoder feed over your ACT connection: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud loops the uploaded video, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports uploaded video at the quality provided, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. A slot is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than a camera feed. Learn about StreamNeo. Start your free first day.
