Yes. YouTube’s published live-encoder limit is up to 60 fps, so 29.97 fps falls within it. That conclusion follows from the stated ceiling: YouTube’s guidance does not name 29.97 fps as a separate supported setting, and your encoder must itself be able to output it. Test the signal in YouTube Live Control Room before an event.
What YouTube’s settings mean for 29.97 fps
YouTube’s live encoder guidance specifies a frame-rate ceiling of up to 60 fps for its listed RTMP/RTMPS settings. Since 29.97 is below that ceiling, it is within the published limit. The documentation does not explicitly list 29.97 as a named option, however, so acceptance depends in part on the encoder actually sending that frame rate. YouTube’s live encoder settings are the reference for current requirements.
The encoder’s input frame rate and the versions viewers receive are different stages. YouTube transcodes live streams into output formats for different devices and network conditions; the guidance does not promise that every viewer will receive playback at exactly 29.97 fps.
Settings to check in your encoder
- Frame rate: Select 29.97 fps if your encoder exposes it, and confirm its output status rather than assuming a 30 fps selection is identical.
- Protocol and codec: YouTube’s listed live settings cover RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1. Check that your encoder’s chosen combination is supported by its own output configuration and the current YouTube settings.
- Bitrate mode: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame-rate detection: YouTube recommends automatic detection by default. A custom stream key permits manual resolution settings where needed.
- Upload capacity: Ensure available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream’s total bitrate, leaving the recommended 20% headroom.
These are YouTube’s general live-encoder recommendations, not a special configuration required only for 29.97 fps. Consult the official settings page before relying on a specific encoder or a time-sensitive setting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to verify 29.97 fps before an event
- Check the encoder output. Confirm in its settings or status display that it can encode and send 29.97 fps at your intended resolution and bitrate.
- Configure the YouTube stream. Use the protocol, codec, bitrate mode, and keyframe interval supported by the encoder and listed in YouTube’s current live settings. Add the stream key in the encoder; use a custom key only if you need manual resolution control.
- Run a representative test. Include audio and motion similar to the planned program. Testing only a static image may not reveal issues that appear during movement or complex audio.
- Inspect Live Control Room. Preview the incoming stream before selecting Start Streaming. Review detected settings and stream-health messages. YouTube recommends testing and previewing before the event begins.
- Monitor during the event. Keep an eye on stream health and alerts; a successful preview does not guarantee that later network or encoder conditions will remain unchanged.
YouTube’s general preparation advice is available in its encoder settings and live streaming tips.
Choosing an encoder for this job
You do not need a dedicated hardware encoder simply because the source is 29.97 fps. YouTube identifies software encoders as an option and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events. The right choice depends on whether the device can output 29.97 fps, support a YouTube-listed protocol and codec, remain stable at the required resolution and bitrate, and fit the operator’s experience and production needs. YouTube’s guidance does not compare specific encoder models.

Troubleshooting a 29.97 fps stream
- The encoder does not offer 29.97 fps: Check its documented output rates and firmware or software settings. Do not assume a generic “30 fps” option is a fractional-rate output.
- Live Control Room does not show the expected settings: Confirm the encoder’s actual output and stream-key configuration, then preview again. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default; use manual resolution settings only where appropriate.
- Stream health reports instability: Compare total stream bitrate with available upload bandwidth and preserve 20% headroom. Check for local network congestion and encoder overload.
- Motion looks uneven or frames appear to be dropped: Verify that the encoder is truly outputting the intended frame rate and can sustain the chosen resolution and bitrate. Test with representative movement and watch the health messages; YouTube’s general documentation does not prescribe a 29.97-specific fix.
- Keyframe-related warning: Set the interval to two seconds and make sure it does not exceed four seconds.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded program live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo takes a different approach from a real-time camera encoder: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer, OBS, or home connection has to stay on. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60 fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
