Yes. A YouTube channel can keep a continuous live stream running while broadcasting a separate scheduled event, provided it stays within YouTube’s concurrent-stream limits. Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, configure its encoder with the scheduled stream’s URL and key, then start and check the feed in Live Control Room when it is time to go live.
How to run both streams
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select Manage to schedule the event. This creates an upcoming event page that you can share; viewers may also be able to opt in to reminders. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide covers scheduling and setup.
- Configure a separate intended stream setup for the event. Enter the scheduled stream’s URL and stream key in its encoder. YouTube describes stream keys as credentials that allow it to accept the encoder’s feed. Its guidance does not say to reuse one encoder session or key for separate simultaneous programs, so treat the event and continuous broadcast as separate stream configurations. - Start the event at its scheduled time. Begin sending the event feed, check its preview in Live Control Room, and start the event there. The existing continuous stream can remain active if both YouTube concurrency limits are respected.
Check YouTube’s concurrent-stream limits
YouTube Help states that a channel may have up to 10 active streams, with no more than 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply together. A continuous stream plus one scheduled event is within those published ceilings if the channel has not used up the available capacity with other active streams. Count all active streams on the channel, not just the two programs you are focused on. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming (accessed 2026).
Confirm the channel can go live
- The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- YouTube says a person must be at least 16 to live stream.
- Before the event, send the encoder feed, confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room, check that the event is accessible, and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube recommends these checks in its live-streaming tips.
Plan for production and archiving
Encoder choice
YouTube supports software encoders. It recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but dedicated hardware is not a general requirement for scheduling or running a second stream. The practical question is whether your setup can send and monitor both intended feeds reliably. YouTube’s production tips discuss encoder considerations without ranking specific models.
Archives for a continuous stream
YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete video; if you need an archive, plan around that stated threshold. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide.
