1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes, a Raspberry Pi can serve as the encoder host for a simple, continuous YouTube radio stream, but there is no official Pi-specific 24/7 reliability guarantee. Whether it stays live depends on the exact audio and visual workload, suitable power, a stable upload connection, encoder configuration, and a plan to detect and recover from interruptions. YouTube recommends testing with conditions similar to the real broadcast and monitoring stream health; a Pi needs to pass that test on your own setup.
What determines whether it stays live?
A Pi is only the computer sending the stream. Your complete broadcast also relies on the power supply, network connection, encoder and settings, and the YouTube live event being configured correctly. YouTube advises choosing stream quality to suit the available internet connection, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast (YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
The available official guidance does not establish a model-specific endurance benchmark, verified bitrate ceiling, thermal result, or measured uptime for Raspberry Pi. It also does not certify a particular Pi and software combination as a YouTube encoder. Treat reliability as something to demonstrate with your actual hardware, stream, and network—not as a property guaranteed by the device name.
The factors to check
- Workload: A radio stream with a static image is a different encoding task from one with changing visuals. Choose a modest visual format and a bitrate appropriate to the stream rather than assuming a high resolution is necessary.
- Power: Raspberry Pi’s getting-started guidance recommends an official power supply suitable for the model in use (Raspberry Pi documentation). The recommendation does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
- Upload connection: The Pi must be able to send the configured stream consistently. If the local connection or power fails, the Pi cannot transmit until the underlying issue is resolved.
- Recovery and monitoring: An unattended stream needs a way for you to notice a failure and determine whether the encoder reconnects or must be restarted. Test this behavior; do not assume it.
Configure the YouTube stream and encoder
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video encoders, constant bitrate, up to 60 frames per second, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Its recommended bitrate varies by resolution, frame rate, and codec, so consult the live table and select the row that matches your actual output rather than relying on a generic number (YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance).

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Create or prepare the YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and obtain the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Interface labels can change; use the current live control room.
- Set the encoder’s output. Choose a resolution and frame rate suited to the radio visual, configure constant bitrate, and set the keyframe interval to two seconds where the encoder exposes that control. Keep the chosen bitrate within YouTube’s current recommendation for the selected codec and resolution.
- Use secure ingestion. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Enter the stream URL and key into the encoder and treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it, or include it in screenshots.
- Run a representative test before launch. Include the intended audio, visuals, encoder settings, and network conditions. YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, then checking stream health.
- Observe an extended trial. Let the intended setup run under the conditions in which it will be left unattended. Check for dropped or unstable transmission, audio problems, and whether the encoder reconnects after a network interruption. This trial is practical due diligence, not proof of future uptime.
Prepare the Pi for unattended operation
Before treating the stream as continuous, confirm that the Pi starts the encoder in the way you intend and that you can tell whether transmission has stopped. The official sources do not prescribe a Pi-specific unattended configuration, so exact startup and restart steps depend on the operating system and encoder you choose.
- Use a power supply appropriate for the exact Pi model; do not interpret that recommendation as an uptime guarantee.
- Keep the stream visual and encoding workload within what your test shows the system can sustain.
- Decide how you will check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and how you will be alerted if the broadcast drops.
- Test recovery behavior deliberately, including what happens after the encoder or network connection is interrupted.
- Have a way to regain access to the Pi and restart or troubleshoot the encoder if automatic recovery does not work.
A compatible UPS or battery backup may be worth considering if brief power interruptions are a concern, but no specific model is established here and a backup does not guarantee a continuous stream.

Know YouTube’s 24-hour archive limitation
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That documented rule does not promise a complete archive for a single 24-hour broadcast, so do not assume the full day’s stream will be available afterward. If retaining a complete recording matters, plan and test a separate recording or archive workflow (YouTube Help: Archive live streams).
Pi versus a cloud-hosted stream
A Pi keeps the encoding host under your control, which can be useful if you need to manage the audio/video pipeline directly. It also makes continuity depend on your local power and broadband, and you are responsible for monitoring and recovery. A hosted cloud option shifts the host away from your home, but compare the service’s actual features, terms, and costs before relying on it; YouTube’s mention of cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming does not verify any particular provider.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the live event is ready, the encoder is using the correct stream URL and key, and the Pi has a working network connection. If you changed the key, update the encoder configuration.
- Stream health is unstable: Review upload stability and the selected bitrate. Lower the output demand if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings, then repeat a representative test.
- The stream looks wrong or audio is missing: Confirm the encoder’s audio and video inputs and settings, and include both in the next test. A test without the real audio/visual workload is not representative.
- The stream stops after an interruption: Check whether the encoder reconnects on its own and whether the live event remains available. If not, restore the network or encoder and restart transmission as needed; establish and test your own recovery procedure.
- The broadcast ends but no complete 24-hour archive appears: YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed complete archive for a 24-hour stream. Use a separate recording plan if a full copy is important.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for a radio stream
Before broadcasting recorded music, documentaries, or other third-party material, confirm that you have the necessary rights for live streaming and any intended archive. A continuous stream is not exempt from copyright rules. Also make sure the channel and stream comply with YouTube’s current policies; permission to stream content does not itself guarantee monetization or eligibility under other channel rules.
