Yes. YouTube’s published guidance treats channel memberships separately from live chat and does not list turning chat off as a membership disqualifier. But YouTube does not specifically guarantee membership eligibility for a continuous 24/7 stream. Your channel must qualify for memberships, enable the feature, and comply with applicable policies.
What disabling live chat does—and does not—change
Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for creator-provided member perks, according to YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies. They are distinct from Super Chat and Super Stickers, which are paid features tied to live chat. Turning off chat therefore removes chat-based interaction and transactions, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that doing so by itself removes the Join button or bars memberships.
YouTube lists memberships as available for both horizontal live streams and vertical live feeds, subject to eligibility. That format guidance does not specifically address uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasts, so it should not be read as a guarantee for every continuous stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming guide.
Which membership perks need live chat?
Disabling chat affects benefits that depend on messages appearing in the live chat. It does not automatically make every membership perk unusable. The perks you offer and their availability depend on your settings and YouTube’s policies.

Check membership eligibility and turn it on
Disabling chat is not a substitute for meeting YouTube’s channel and feature requirements. Memberships must be available for your location and channel, and your channel must follow the relevant policies. You also need to activate memberships in YouTube Studio and accept the applicable Commerce Product Module. YouTube may review a channel after it accepts the module, so access may not appear immediately.

- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Open the Earn tab and review the membership status and any actions or requirements shown for your channel.
- Confirm your channel qualifies. YouTube’s published YPP overview describes an early access tier that can include memberships at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days. A higher tier also lists memberships at 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days. These thresholds do not guarantee acceptance: location, feature-specific criteria, and policies still apply. Check YouTube’s current YPP overview and eligibility rules and your Studio Earn tab, because criteria can change.
- Enable memberships and set up perks. Follow the prompts in Studio, accept the Commerce Product Module if requested, and create perks that work for your audience even when stream chat is unavailable. See YouTube’s channel-membership setup guide.
- Check the stream separately. YouTube says live-streaming access requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Review YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions if access or features are limited.
YouTube notes that chat may be disabled for some streams featuring 13–15 year olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult. That is one example of a chat restriction, not a general statement that every other feature will remain available in every circumstance.
What to expect from a continuous 24/7 stream
The published guidance supports a limited conclusion: chat being off is not listed as a membership disqualifier, and memberships are listed for livestream formats. It does not make a specific determination about whether a continuous 24/7 stream qualifies. Check your channel’s Earn tab and the policies that apply to your content and stream rather than assuming duration alone either guarantees or prevents memberships.

For a stream made from prerecorded material, also make sure you have the rights to the content and that the channel and stream comply with YouTube’s applicable policies. Eligibility for memberships is not an exemption from those requirements.
