Williams attended a USC women’s basketball game in March 2024, during the NCAA tournament. A report at the time said he was seen dancing in his seat; images and video drew attention online to his pink nails, phone and lips. The episode was covered by People, in a report syndicated by Yahoo, and later by TheGrio.
At the time, People described Williams as 22, a Heisman Trophy winner and an expected top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Those were descriptions of his status in March 2024, not current career details.
What did Caleb Williams say in response?
USC assistant athletic director Gavin Morris appeared with Williams in a video exchange. Morris joked, “It’s been a long week for you.” Williams then riffed on the attention around his belongings and appearance: “The wallet’s white,” and “The phone is pink, the case is clear.”

On the nails, Williams said, “Nails are clear.” On his lips, he joked, “Lips are pink — your girl love ’em!” These short quotations were reported by People; the full original video transcript is not available in the cited coverage.
Why does Williams paint his nails?
Williams had discussed nail polish before the March 2024 incident. In an earlier interview quoted by People, he said he had painted his nails before college and that people were surprised because male football players do not often do so. He described it as “just another way of expression.”

People also reported that his mother, Dayna Price, was a former nail technician who used to paint his nails. That background offers context for his familiarity with manicures; it does not establish which polish or other products he used at the game.
