BTS member SUGA became an NBA Ambassador on April 6, 2023, under an announcement by the NBA and BIGHIT MUSIC. The role was presented as a way to connect with fans and promote the league through appearances, social media and selected activities around his D-DAY solo tour—not as a playing or coaching position. The partnership also led to an official SUGA-designed NBA apparel capsule later that year.
When did SUGA become an NBA Ambassador?
The NBA and BIGHIT MUSIC announced SUGA’s appointment on April 6, 2023. In its announcement, the league described him as a South Korean rapper, songwriter, producer and BTS member. It said he would engage NBA fans through the remainder of the 2022–23 season and beyond.
The announcement followed SUGA’s attendance at the 2022 NBA Japan Games and a Los Angeles Lakers–Dallas Mavericks game on January 12, 2023. It also pointed to basketball’s appearance in BTS’s “Dynamite” music video.
What did the ambassador role involve?
The NBA outlined fan engagement and promotional work, rather than a formal job description with a stated term or fixed schedule. Planned activities included league initiatives featured on NBA and SUGA social media, appearances at games and events in the United States and Asia, and promotion connected to NBA events.
