Adele Springsteen, Bruce Springsteen’s mother, died on January 31, 2024, at age 98. Bruce announced her death the next day with a video of them dancing and lyrics from his song “The Wish.” Her cause of death was not disclosed in initial reports.
When did Adele Springsteen die, and how old was she?
Adele Springsteen was 98 when she died on January 31, 2024. Bruce Springsteen shared the news on February 1, identifying her in his announcement as “Adele Springsteen — May 4, 1925–January 31, 2024.” The Associated Press reported the date and age; RTÉ also reproduced his announcement.
What did Bruce Springsteen say about his mother?
Bruce’s tribute paired a video of the two dancing with excerpts from “The Wish,” his song about his mother. The lyrics recall her getting ready for work; they are part of the song, not a separate statement about the circumstances of her death. RTÉ’s report includes the announcement and tribute.
What was Adele Springsteen known for?
Adele worked as a legal secretary and was a familiar face at her son’s concerts. At a 2012 MetLife Stadium performance, she was reported dancing and singing in the audience. In 2016, she danced with Bruce at Madison Square Garden at age 90, according to the Associated Press.

Was Alzheimer’s disease reported as the cause of death?
No cause of death was disclosed in initial reports. Bruce had said in 2021 that his mother had been struggling with Alzheimer’s disease for a decade and could no longer speak or stand, as recounted in the Associated Press account. That earlier description does not establish Alzheimer’s as the cause of her death.
