What is Skin of Glass about?
The documentary begins with Zmekhol’s discovery that her late father’s celebrated modernist glass skyscraper in São Paulo, known as Pele de Vidro (“Skin of Glass”), is occupied by hundreds of homeless families. From that personal and architectural history, the film turns toward displacement, inequality, loss, and the human consequences of Brazil’s housing crisis. PBS Independent Lens likewise describes the film as moving from the occupied building to a wider reckoning with inequality in Brazil.
