The talk began with a nostalgic social-media tease attributed to cast member Dirk Blocker. Separately, NBCUniversal announced Sunset P.I., a new comedy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine executive producers—but did not describe it as a continuation of the series.
Why fans think Brooklyn Nine-Nine may return
In March 2026, Hello Rayo reported that Dirk Blocker, who played Detective Hitchcock, posted a nostalgic hint alongside Joel McKinnon Miller, who played Detective Scully. The report attributed this wording to Blocker: “Are you guys ready for this? You know exactly what to do … FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT (at your discretion) soon”.

That is a reported social-media tease, not an announcement from NBC, Fox, or the show’s creators. Hello Rayo’s March 26 report said there had been no official word about a green-lit reboot, revival, or spin-off. Joyn’s April 28, 2026 status article likewise characterized the activity as rumor. Neither report establishes that a new season is in production.
What NBCUniversal has confirmed
NBCUniversal has announced Sunset P.I., a separate comedy. The two confirmed developments below are easy to conflate, but they have different status and do not establish a Brooklyn Nine-Nine continuation.

| Development | Official status | Creative connection | Relationship to Brooklyn Nine-Nine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blocker’s reported tease | Hello Rayo reported a social post in March 2026; the report does not establish a green-lit project. | Cast-member social-media activity, as reported by Hello Rayo. | It prompted reboot speculation, but no continuation was confirmed in the cited reports. |
| Sunset P.I. | NBCUniversal listed it among its 2026–27 comedies on May 11, 2026. | NBCUniversal identifies it as a comedy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine executive producers. | NBCUniversal describes it as a new comedy, not as a reboot, spin-off, or story set in the same world. |
Before the schedule announcement, NBCUniversal reported on March 3, 2026, that Dan Goor and Luke del Tredici were developing a workplace comedy set in an L.A. private detective’s office, in a pilot-development context. Development of that pilot is not confirmation that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is returning. The May announcement connects Sunset P.I. to the original series through its executive producers; it does not say that the two shows share characters or a setting.
Where the original series stands
Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows colleagues at the NYPD’s 99th precinct. Channel 4 credits Dan Goor and Michael Schur as the series’ creators. Joyn reported in 2026 that the show concluded in 2021 after eight seasons and 153 episodes. Joyn also notes that Andre Braugher, who played central character Captain Raymond Holt, died in 2023.

What to watch for in a real reboot announcement
A cast tease or a project involving former executive producers can signal renewed attention, but neither confirms that a series has been commissioned. A clear confirmation would need to identify the project as a Brooklyn Nine-Nine continuation or revival and establish an official status beyond rumor or pilot development. The reports cited here do not provide that confirmation.
This status is time-bounded: the latest verified reports available for this article do not establish a reboot. A later official announcement could change it.
