Shields later described the relationship as part of becoming more independent from her mother and taking ownership of her career. In The Guardian’s 2017 interview, she reflected on its significance to her later marriage: “I think I couldn’t have even been with my [now] husband had I not been in that relationship with Andre.”

Michael Jackson should not be counted as a confirmed partner in Shields’s dating history. The Associated Press’s 2023 report on the documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields describes their relationship as a friendship. The Guardian’s 2025 profile says Jackson claimed they were dating; that is an attributed claim, not confirmation that they were a couple.
