The move was described at the time as a fresh start after a difficult period of court proceedings, but later reporting changed the picture: they married in 2024, and their French home was listed for sale that September. The available reports do not establish where they live now or whether the property sold.
What was reported about their departure
The New Daily reported that Higgins and Sharaz departed from Brisbane for France in December 2023 and were photographed at Brisbane International Airport. Its account said Higgins planned to study and learn French. These are details from contemporary media reporting, not independently verified travel records or confirmed statements by the couple. The New Daily’s December 2023 report used the framing “new life in France”; that phrase should be understood as a headline description, not a verified quotation from Higgins or Sharaz.

Why the word “fiancé” is tied to the 2023 report
At the time of the departure report, Sharaz was described as Higgins’s fiancé. The Guardian later reported that they married in June 2024 and that Higgins announced her pregnancy the following month. A later relationship status should not be projected backward onto the December 2023 coverage. The Guardian’s 2024 reporting documents the subsequent marriage and pregnancy announcement.
What happened to the French home
In September 2024, The Guardian reported that the couple’s French home was listed for €420,000, then reported as A$690,000, with the intended proceeds to help fund legal fees. This was an asking price at the time of listing—not a confirmed sale price, a current valuation, or proof that the property sold.

The Guardian described the listed property as a 160-square-metre home with three bedrooms and more than an acre of land, about a 10-minute drive north of Bergerac. Those details describe the property as reported in 2024; they do not establish its present ownership or status.
What later reporting does—and does not—establish
An August 2026 profile in The Saturday Paper describes Higgins as having spent time in France, as married to Sharaz, and as having a baby son, while focusing on her documentary interview in Silenced. That later account does not establish that the couple still lives in France. Nor do the available reports confirm whether their listed home was sold. The Saturday Paper’s profile provides the later context.

Correction about Sharaz’s identity
On 22 December 2023, the ABC corrected a live report that had mistakenly named Bruce Lehrmann as Higgins’s partner who moved to France. The correction identified the partner as David Sharaz. The ABC correction is the relevant clarification.
