Britney Spears and Sam Asghari reached a divorce settlement in May 2024, and the Associated Press reported that a Los Angeles County judge finalized their divorce that month. Public reports say their written agreement addressed asset division, waived future spousal support for both parties, and sent future disputes to private arbitration. The agreement’s detailed financial terms were not made public in the coverage reviewed.
What the settlement reportedly covered
- Property: The agreement reportedly divided assets, but the public reports did not disclose the allocation or a settlement dollar amount. The Los Angeles Times reported that settlement papers were filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and that the couple asked the court to approve their written agreement. The Associated Press reported that assets were divided.
- Spousal support: The AP reported that neither party would receive future spousal support.
- Future disputes: The AP reported that disputes would be handled in private arbitration.
Those are the terms described in public coverage, not a reproduction of the agreement. The amount or form of any payment, how particular assets were allocated, fees, any prenuptial-agreement provisions, and other private clauses were not specified. The reports also said the couple had no children together, so the divorce did not require a custody agreement, according to the AP.
Filing and finalization timeline
- June 9, 2022: The AP’s earlier filing coverage reported that Spears and Asghari married at her home in Thousand Oaks, California.
- July 28, 2023: ABC News reported that court filings listed this as their separation date.
- August 16, 2023: Asghari filed a petition for dissolution in Los Angeles County. ABC News gave this petition date; the AP reported that he filed late that Wednesday.
- May 2024: Settlement papers were filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and the parties asked the court to approve their written agreement. The AP later reported that a judge finalized the dissolution in the same period.
The AP described the marriage as lasting about 14 months before Asghari filed for divorce. The chronology and duration are based on dates reported by news outlets, not a review here of the underlying filings or judgment.
What remains private—and how finalization was reported
The settlement itself was not reproduced in the coverage, and few details were made public. There is no reliable basis in those reports for assigning a specific dollar value, describing a particular asset split, or asserting terms about fees or a prenup.

#1 Best Overall
The AP reported that a Los Angeles County judge finalized the dissolution and described Spears and Asghari as officially divorced and single. The judgment was not independently reviewed here. The Los Angeles Superior Court’s divorce judgment service explains how members of the public can order copies of divorce judgments; some family-law judgments may also be available through its case-document system.
The Los Angeles Times attributed the description of the settlement as “amicable” to a person close to Spears who was not authorized to speak publicly, rather than presenting it as a court finding. In separate reporting, Asghari’s representative Brandon Cohen told the AP: “No negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
