What is Bridgerton Season 3, Episode 7 called?
Netflix lists the seventh episode of the eight-episode season as “Joining of Hands.” “Got a Secret, Can You Keep It?” is an editorial subtitle, not the official episode title. The episode belongs to Part 2 of Season 3. Netflix Tudum’s episode guide gives the title and season structure.
Why is Colin confronting Penelope?
Episode 7 starts with the discovery that ended Episode 6: Colin sees Penelope hand the latest Lady Whistledown issue to the printer and realizes that she is the writer. The issue was meant to answer Cressida Cowper’s false claim that she was Lady Whistledown, but Colin’s discovery leaves him reeling. Netflix’s explainer on Lady Whistledown’s identity confirms the timing of Colin’s discovery.
The secret puts two kinds of trust in conflict. Colin is hurt that Penelope concealed such a large part of her life; Penelope, meanwhile, has built a voice and independence through her writing. He wants her to stop publishing. She does not want to give up that voice simply to make the danger disappear.

That argument connects their immediate crisis to Penelope’s broader arc. Netflix describes her as trying to enter the marriage mart while maintaining her double life, and showrunner Jess Brownell said: “Penelope learns to speak up for herself and learns the importance of being honest, which is something that got her in trouble last season.” Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 explainer also notes that Penelope ultimately reveals her identity to the ton by the finale. Episode 7 has not yet resolved that public question.
How do Cressida and Penelope’s claims deepen the scandal?
The episode sets competing Whistledown claims against one another: Cressida’s assertion of authorship and Penelope’s writing shape what the ton believes about the identity of the gossip columnist and the Bridgerton family. The resulting uncertainty raises the stakes for Penelope. Her writing is not only a secret between her and Colin; it has consequences for people around them, including the family she is about to join.

The episode’s sequence and details of the competing issues are described in Ready Steady Cut’s Episode 7 recap. Netflix’s season-level account establishes the larger arc, but the issue-by-issue account comes from that secondary recap.
Why do Penelope and Colin marry while they are still at odds?
The wedding goes ahead even though the Whistledown revelation remains unresolved between them. Their commitment is real, but the ceremony does not magically settle whether Penelope can continue writing or how Colin will respond to the risks her identity creates. That tension follows them into the wedding celebration.

The episode places their wedding before the season’s eventual public reckoning. Netflix confirms the couple marry by the end of Season 3, while the episode-specific placement of the wedding is recounted by Ready Steady Cut. Netflix identifies Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton as the novel that inspired the season. At the wedding breakfast, Queen Charlotte arrives and has the guests cleared, leaving the Bridgertons to hear her suspicion: Lady Whistledown is someone in the family. The celebration turns into a direct confrontation with the secret Penelope and Colin have not yet resolved. The Queen’s accusation keeps the danger alive, but does not expose Penelope publicly in this episode.

What Episode 7 changes—and what it leaves unresolved
- Colin’s discovery becomes a relationship crisis: he knows Penelope’s identity, and they must face what her secrecy means to their marriage.
- Penelope’s authorship is also a question of agency: she will not simply agree to stop writing, even as the consequences threaten her and the Bridgertons.
- The wedding does not end the danger: Queen Charlotte’s suspicion brings the Whistledown question into the family’s celebration.
- The public reveal is still ahead: the season’s final reckoning with the ton happens after this episode.
