What is Season 2 of Bridgerton about?
The eight-episode season, which aired in March 2022, centers on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Kate arrives in London with her stepmother Mary and younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran). When Edwina is named the Queen’s diamond of the season, Anthony pursues her as a suitable wife. He says he wants a marriage based on duty, not love; Kate distrusts him and tries to protect her sister.
The pressure is not only romantic. The Sheffields will provide Mary’s family fortune only if Edwina marries English nobility, adding financial stakes to the match. Anthony’s courtship nonetheless grows complicated as he and Kate are drawn to each other.
Netflix’s official Season 2 recap describes the season as an eight-episode story first released in March 2022.

Why does Edwina stop the wedding?
Anthony and Edwina’s wedding proceeds with Queen Charlotte’s support, but the ceremony never reaches its vows. When Kate drops a bracelet at the altar, Anthony rushes to retrieve it. The moment makes his feelings for Kate visible to Edwina and the congregation. Edwina leaves the altar, later refuses Anthony’s offer to continue the ceremony, and confronts Kate.
Kate and Anthony then admit their feelings and kiss in the chapel. Edwina’s refusal ends the match, but the public failure also threatens the standing of both families. They try to repair their reputations with a ball, only for it to be boycotted.
How do Kate and Anthony end up together?
After the failed ball, Kate and Anthony give in to their attraction in the gazebo. The following morning, Kate rides away; her horse is startled, she falls, and she is knocked unconscious. After she recovers, Anthony visits and proposes. Kate initially refuses because she intends to return to India.
At the Featherington Ball, Kate and Anthony dance. Anthony declares his love, and Queen Charlotte gives the families a way to save face by presenting the canceled wedding as her decision. The finale then jumps forward to Aubrey Hall, where Kate and Anthony are shown happily married. Their wedding is not staged in the main action of the finale; the later flash-forward is what confirms the marriage.

Season 2 adapts Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, but changes important story details. In particular, the television courtship between Anthony and Edwina reaches the altar, and Edwina is given a more independent set of wants and feelings. Showrunner Chris Van Dusen told TheWrap that he wanted her to be “fully realized” rather than “a mere prop in the Kate-Anthony relationship.”
Van Dusen described Kate and Anthony as mirrors of each other, both negotiating family duty and personal desire. He said Season 2 examines whether love can conquer all “through the lens of familial duty.” Read TheWrap’s interview with Van Dusen for his explanation of the finale and adaptation choices. The novel is supplementary reading, not required to follow the show’s ending.
