Bridgerton season 2 follows Anthony Bridgerton as he sets out to marry Edwina Sharma for duty, only to fall for her fiercely independent sister, Kate. Across eight episodes, their restrained attraction threatens two families’ plans, while Penelope and Eloise’s friendship fractures over Lady Whistledown. Here is the full, spoiler-filled recap.
What happens in Bridgerton season 2?
The season premiered in March 2022 and has eight episodes. Its central romance is Anthony and Kate’s, but Anthony begins by pursuing Edwina, Kate’s younger sister. He treats marriage as a practical obligation rather than a choice made for love—a stance shaped by the sudden death of his father, Edmund, and Anthony’s belief that he must protect the Bridgerton family.
Kate, meanwhile, has come to London with her stepmother, Lady Mary, and Edwina to help Edwina find a suitable match. When she discovers Anthony’s coldly transactional approach, she decides he is not right for her sister. Their opposition gives way to a slow-burn attraction that neither can comfortably acknowledge while Anthony is engaged to Edwina.
Episode 1: “Capital R Rake”
Eloise makes her society debut, but the Queen’s attention is soon pulled toward the latest Lady Whistledown sheet. Anthony announces that he is looking for a wife and makes clear that he does not intend to fall in love. On a morning ride, he meets Kate Sharma and loses an impromptu race to her.

Kate’s priority is helping Edwina make a good match. Lady Danbury intervenes on the family’s behalf, and the Queen names Edwina the season’s diamond. Kate learns how Anthony views marriage and resolves to keep him away from Edwina. Lady Danbury also discovers a financial condition imposed by the Sheffields: the family fortune will depend on Edwina marrying an English nobleman. Kate keeps that pressure from her sister.
Episode 2: “Off to the Races”
Anthony begins courting Edwina, while Kate continues to oppose the match. Colin returns from abroad, and the Queen uses Edwina’s prominence in her effort to identify Lady Whistledown. Eloise, suspicious of the scandal sheet’s operation, starts investigating its printer.
At Lady Danbury’s soirée, Anthony abandons a poem Benedict prepared for him and speaks sincerely instead. The change of approach impresses Edwina, making the courtship more serious even as Anthony and Kate’s conflict continues.

Episode 3: “A Bee in Your Bonnet”
A flashback reveals how Edmund died after being stung by a bee while hunting with Anthony. The loss helps explain why Anthony fears the pain of loving someone and why he sees family duty as more dependable than romantic attachment.
At Aubrey Hall, Anthony hosts the Sharmas. He and Kate spar during a game of pall-mall and share moments of unmistakable tension. Anthony remains unsure whether Edwina is a safe choice or the right one. When a bee sting triggers his panic, Kate calms him, briefly exposing the fear beneath his controlled manner.
Episode 4: “Victory”
Edwina realizes Kate is one reason Anthony hesitates to propose, though she does not yet understand the nature of their connection. Anthony and Kate grow closer during a hunt and at a ball. Kate tells Anthony she intends to leave London once Edwina is engaged, making clear that she does not expect to remain part of his life.

Daphne urges Anthony to follow his heart. He instead proposes to Edwina, choosing the course he believes duty requires. Elsewhere, Portia Featherington’s plan to secure a marriage between Prudence and Jack Featherington succeeds in an unexpected way, but Jack’s lack of money creates a problem for the family.
Episode 5: “An Unthinkable Fate”
The Queen takes charge of Anthony and Edwina’s wedding arrangements. Anthony’s jealousy surfaces when Kate spends time with another suitor. At a dinner with the Sheffields, the agreement about Edwina’s marriage comes to light. Anthony is furious that Kate concealed the condition and throws Mary’s parents out; he and Violet are also angry with Kate.

Episode 6: “The Choice”
Anthony and Edwina’s wedding becomes a public spectacle overseen by the Queen, who also sees it as another chance to unmask Lady Whistledown. At the altar, Edwina notices the way Anthony and Kate focus on each other. She recognizes that their feelings are the truth her intended marriage has been avoiding.
Edwina leaves the ceremony and refuses Anthony’s attempt to carry on. Her decision ends the wedding on her terms rather than allowing her to be treated as a bystander in her sister’s and Anthony’s romance. Afterward, Kate and Anthony admit their feelings and kiss in the chapel.
Episode 7: “Harmony”
The abandoned wedding leaves both the Bridgertons and the Sharmas facing a social scandal. The Queen suspects Eloise is Lady Whistledown. Penelope tries to protect Eloise by publishing damaging material about her, but the story intensifies the trouble and further harms their friendship.

A planned Bridgerton ball is deserted. Anthony and Kate spend the night together in the gazebo. Kate leaves the next morning, falls from her horse, and suffers a head injury.

While Kate is unconscious, the families contend with the consequences of the broken wedding. Benedict learns that Anthony’s donation helped him enter art school. Penelope and Eloise’s friendship deteriorates further, and Eloise ends her connection with Theo after Penelope’s lie helps force the separation.
Kate wakes. Anthony proposes, but she says she plans to return to India. At the Featherington Ball, Colin exposes Jack’s fake-gem scheme. Kate and Anthony dance, and the Queen presents the failed wedding as her own idea, giving the families a way to navigate the public fallout.
Eloise confronts Penelope about being Lady Whistledown. Penelope also overhears Colin dismiss the idea of courting her, a painful final blow to her hopes. Anthony and Kate declare their love and kiss openly. A flash-forward shows them married, while Penelope decides to continue writing as Lady Whistledown.

How season 2 ends for Anthony, Kate, Edwina, and Penelope
- Anthony and Kate: They overcome Anthony’s insistence on duty without love, reconcile at the Featherington Ball, and are shown married in the flash-forward.
- Edwina: She stops the wedding after recognizing Anthony and Kate’s feelings, making her own choice about a future she no longer wants.
- Penelope and Eloise: Penelope’s attempt to protect Eloise with a damaging Whistledown story deepens their rupture. Eloise discovers Penelope’s identity, while Penelope overhears Colin dismiss the possibility of courting her.
- The Featheringtons: Colin exposes Jack’s fake-gem scheme at the ball, changing the family’s position as the season closes.
Is “The Viscount Who Loved Me” based on a book?
Yes. Season 2 adapts Julia Quinn’s second Bridgerton novel, also titled The Viscount Who Loved Me. The television series uses the name Kate Sharma; the book calls her Kate Sheffield. The novel is a separate version of Anthony and Kate’s romance, not a beat-for-beat transcript of the episodes.
