Brett Goldstein brings two different roles to a shared question: what makes a relationship matter? In All of You, he plays Simon, a longtime friend confronting the possibility that friendship and romantic love do not fit neatly into a soulmate test. In Ted Lasso, he plays Roy Kent, a football coach whose guardedness sits within a larger ensemble story. Goldstein co-wrote All of You and has also written and executive produced Ted Lasso.
What is All of You about?
All of You follows Simon, played by Goldstein, and Laura, played by Imogen Poots, college friends whose lives move in different directions after Laura takes a test that identifies her soulmate. Simon and Laura have years of unspoken feelings between them, but the test and Laura’s subsequent relationship make the question more complicated than simply asking whether they belong together.
Apple describes the film as a humorous and heart-wrenching romantic drama. Its central dilemma is not only whether the test can name a soulmate, but whether a person can be “your everything” when close friendship and romantic commitment pull in different directions.
Goldstein co-wrote the film with William Bridges, who directed it. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival before its global streaming debut on Apple TV+ on September 26, 2025.

Why does the film ask whether your soulmate is your best friend?
Goldstein told the Associated Press that the premise began with a conversation with Bridges about whether a test could take uncertainty out of dating. The idea led to a harder question: if a person has a deep connection with someone other than their partner, what does that connection mean, and does it diminish the existing relationship?
“There’s someone in their life that is not their partner that they have a connection that feels more than friends, but what is that? What is love? And does it take away from the other? We just wanted to explore all of that over time.”

The AP report also notes that the filmmakers wanted Laura’s soulmate and husband to be sympathetic, not a villain or an obviously poor match. That choice makes the conflict less about escaping a bad relationship and more about weighing two meaningful bonds. The film’s uncertainty is the point: a test may offer an answer, but it cannot settle what people owe one another or how they should interpret love.
How does All of You compare with Ted Lasso?

The comparison is useful without treating the characters as versions of Goldstein himself. Simon’s dilemma is part of a feature-film romance built around uncertainty and choice. Roy’s relationships are one strand of a television ensemble. Goldstein’s work across both also shows him contributing behind the scenes as well as performing: he co-wrote All of You, and Apple identifies him among the writers and executive producers of Ted Lasso.

Is Ted Lasso coming back for season four?
Apple announced a fourth season on March 14, 2025, with Jason Sudeikis returning and Goldstein listed among the writers and executive producers. That announcement establishes the renewal and Goldstein’s credited role; it does not, by itself, establish a premiere date or the season’s story. The available announcement should not be read as confirmation that the season has aired.

For All of You, “happy ending” is less a promise of a simple romantic resolution than a question about what counts as a good outcome. The film’s premise puts a scientific-sounding answer beside the messier experience of affection, loyalty, and choice. Goldstein’s own explanation of the idea emphasizes exploring those tensions over time, rather than asserting that one kind of love must cancel another.

That is a reading of the film’s setup, not a claim about Goldstein’s private beliefs or a spoiler about its ending. The facts available about the story establish the dilemma and its emotional stakes, not a single universal prescription for how friendship and romance should resolve.
