The toy was returned anonymously after a 48-hour search, and the family donated the reward to Variety.
How Hoppy went missing
According to PerthNow reporter Zach Margolius, Maddox and her family believed they had left Hoppy at John Oldham Park on Mounts Bay Road in Perth. They were leaving around 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024, and hurried to gather their picnic belongings after Maddox accidentally injured her arm.
Hoppy was a pink Jellycat bunny that had been with the family for seven-and-a-half years. A patch on the toy read “LOVE.” The appeal described the bunny as belonging to seven-year-old Charlotte, who took it everywhere.
The appeal and $1,000 reward
Maddox offered $1,000 for Hoppy’s safe return and shared an appeal asking anyone who recognized or had found the toy to come forward. The appeal said: “Much loved pink jellycats bunny left at John Oldham Park, Mounts Bay Rd Perth at 11am on the 10th March,” adding, “Hoppy has a patch on her that says LOVE.” It ended: “Hoppy belongs to 7-year-old Charlotte and goes everywhere with her. Charlotte is devastated. Please help.”
