Three posthumous awards
Elza Soares won Pop/Rock Interpreter, Erasmo Carlos won Pop/Rock Release, and Marília Mendonça won Canção Popular Interpreter. All three awards were posthumous, as reported by CNN Brasil.
Why the categories differed from earlier editions
The 2023 ceremony was the award’s 30th edition and returned after a four-year hiatus. O Globo reported several category changes: Cantor/Cantora was replaced with Intérprete, a designation described as covering female, male and non-binary artists; the former combined Pop/Rock/Reggae/Hip Hop/Funk category was split into Pop/Rock and Música Urbana; and Melhor DVD became Melhor Produto Audiovisual.

The official 2023 regulations describe a five-phase process: release submissions, preselection, scoring by a specialist jury, nominations and selection of winners. They set three nominees per segment, except five in the interpreter segment. Eligible releases had to be made available in Brazil during the preceding calendar year; accepted forms included Compact Disc, e-Album, EP and single. These eligibility rules do not establish current retail availability.

Its reported headline winners included IZA for Artist of the Year, Simone Mendes for Hit of the Year and Xande de Pilares for Album of the Year. Those results do not belong in the PMB winners list.
