Why was a midwife traveling with the family?
The Gilberts had prepared for the possibility of giving birth while on the road by having a midwife, identified in reports as Brittany Thornton, travel with them. They did not, however, expect the baby to arrive that night. Gilbert said the couple believed they still had roughly a week before the due date.

What did Brantley Gilbert say after the birth?
Gilbert shared video and photographs about the event in the days after the concert. The footage and subsequent interviews formed the basis of the main public account: he was called away during the show, learned that Amber was giving birth, spent time with his wife and son, and then returned to the stage.
Gilbert described the night in strongly personal terms, including calling it the “craziest night of my life.” He also said he helped with the delivery and was the first person to touch the baby. Those details are statements attributed to Gilbert in follow-up coverage rather than independently verified medical findings.
Amber’s account also made clear that she wanted Gilbert to return to the audience after the birth. He did so and completed the Tupelo performance. At the end of the concert, he announced the news simply: “We got a baby.”
