His statement expressed regret for harm and acknowledged the influence of his position in the band, but it did not specifically address Garey’s allegations, according to Pitchfork. In the immediate aftermath, Brand New’s scheduled UK dates were reported as canceled by The Guardian and postponed by KQED.
What allegations were made against Jesse Lacey?
On November 11, 2017, Pitchfork reported that Nicole Elizabeth Garey had publicly accused Lacey of soliciting explicit images from her beginning when she was 15. The report also described an alleged Skype interaction. These are allegations attributed to Garey in contemporaneous reporting; they should not be treated as adjudicated findings.

What did Jesse Lacey say in his statement?
Lacey posted a statement through Brand New’s Facebook page. Pitchfork quoted him as saying: “The actions of my past have caused pain and harm to a number of people, and I want to say that I am absolutely sorry.”
Pitchfork also reported that Lacey described having “developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex” and apologized for ignoring how his status and power as a band member affected people’s interactions with him. The same report noted that his statement did not specifically address Garey’s allegations. The apology was general; it should not be characterized as a specific admission of every act she alleged.

Did Brand New cancel its UK tour?
Contemporary accounts used different wording for the scheduled UK dates. The Guardian reported on November 13, 2017, that Brand New had canceled them. KQED, also reporting on November 13, described the UK tour as postponed; its story was updated on January 11, 2024. Those reports establish the immediate impact on the scheduled UK dates, not that the band definitively ended all touring or activity in 2017.
