They are among ten famous figures linked to football clubs—but their roles differ, and one example below, Elton John at Watford, is historical rather than current.
Ten famous people linked to football club ownership
“Celebrity owner” is a broad label: it can describe an investor, a member of a larger ownership group, or a co-owner, not necessarily the person who controls a club. This list includes entertainers and athletes, and distinguishes current examples from a historical one.
| Person | Club | Role and context |
|---|---|---|
| Tom Brady | Birmingham City | Minority owner; his role does not mean he is the sole or controlling owner. BBC Sport reported his involvement in 2023. |
| David Beckham | Inter Miami CF | Founder of the club, according to BBC. He is also part of Salford City’s ownership group, reported in 2025. |
| Ryan Reynolds | Wrexham AFC | Co-owner alongside Rob McElhenney; the club is a shared venture, not Reynolds’s alone. BBC covers the pair’s takeover. |
| Rob McElhenney | Wrexham AFC | Reynolds’s co-owner. Both names refer to the same ownership partnership. BBC describes their involvement. |
| Snoop Dogg | Swansea City | The club announced him as a co-owner and investor in July 2025. Swansea City’s announcement presented his profile as an opportunity to expand the club’s reach and commercial performance. |
| Will Ferrell | Los Angeles FC (LAFC) | Listed as an owner on LAFC’s official ownership page; Ferrell is known for his entertainment career. |
| LeBron James | Liverpool FC | Named among Liverpool’s celebrity stakeholders in an ESPN feature published in 2023. His current stake is not established by that source. |
| Natalie Portman | Angel City FC | Identified as an investor in Angel City in ESPN’s 2023 feature. Her current role is not established by that source. |
| Elton John | Watford FC | A historical example: BBC describes him as a prominent former chairman who took the role in 1976. This does not make him a current owner. |
| Gary Neville | Salford City | Part of the ownership group reported in 2025, alongside Beckham. The Associated Press reported the group’s takeover. |
What the headline names mean
Does Tom Brady own Birmingham City?
Yes, but the accurate description is minority owner. That means his public association with Birmingham should not be mistaken for sole or controlling ownership. BBC Sport’s 2023 report used the minority-owner description.
What team does David Beckham own?
Beckham is the founder of Inter Miami CF. He also joined the ownership group that took over Salford City in 2025, according to AP. These are distinct club associations; the sources cited here do not establish that he is the sole owner of either club.

Who owns Wrexham with Ryan Reynolds?
Actor and producer Rob McElhenney is Reynolds’s co-owner. The two names in the list represent one shared Wrexham ownership partnership, not two separate takeovers. BBC reports on their joint involvement.
Does Snoop Dogg own Swansea City?
Swansea City announced him as a co-owner and investor in July 2025. The club said his profile could help extend its reach and commercial performance; that is a stated opportunity, not evidence that celebrity involvement guarantees sporting or financial success. The club’s announcement also quoted him saying, “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City.”

How to read celebrity ownership claims
A famous person’s name beside a club can refer to very different arrangements. Check the wording and date of the source before treating “owner” as proof of control: a minority owner holds a limited stake, an investor has put money into a club, and a co-owner shares ownership with others. A former chairman or an investor named in an older feature should not automatically be presented as a current owner.
Celebrity involvement may bring attention and commercial opportunities, as Swansea said of Snoop Dogg, but visibility alone does not establish who makes club decisions or whether the team will succeed on the pitch.
