Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film was announced as F1 in July 2024; its later Apple branding is F1 The Movie. Formula 1 revealed the film’s global artwork on March 13, 2025, showing Pitt as veteran driver Sonny Hayes in gear for the fictional APXGP team. The title announcement and artwork reveal were separate events.
What is Brad Pitt’s F1 movie called?
Formula 1 confirmed the title as F1 on July 5, 2024. When Apple announced the trailer and published its film page in March 2025, it styled the release F1 The Movie. The two names refer to the same film, not separate projects. Formula 1’s title announcement and Apple’s film page show the chronology.
What does the movie artwork show?
Formula 1 announced a global-artwork reveal on March 13, 2025. The image features Pitt as Sonny Hayes wearing APXGP team gear. Formula 1’s announcement calls it global artwork; it does not establish that this was definitively the film’s first poster. See the official artwork announcement.
Who are the characters and filmmakers?
Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former driver returning to Formula 1. He joins APXGP, a fictional team, alongside rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. Javier Bardem plays Ruben Cervantes, Hayes’s former teammate and the struggling team’s owner.

Joseph Kosinski directed. The producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman. Apple describes the movie as made in collaboration with Formula 1. The production announcement says the F1 community—including teams and drivers, the FIA and race promoters—was involved, and Formula 1 reports that filming took place during real Grand Prix weekends in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The story’s APXGP team remains fictional. Apple’s official film information and Formula 1’s production announcement describe the project.
What is the story?
Apple’s synopsis describes Hayes as “the greatest that never was”: a promising Formula 1 driver in the 1990s whose career was nearly ended by a crash. Later working as a racer-for-hire, he is recruited by Cervantes to make one more attempt to save the team. Hayes races alongside Pearce, a rookie with a different career stage and outlook.
